From what I can see, ETA threads are generally used in the borehole industry, we have used a company called drillwell to supply 2 rods for testing, but Im struggling to find any technical info on them, and drillwell either don't have the technical details, or I think are unwilling to share too...
Drilling through metal.
We have looked a few, such as AMMT etc which we do use on certain parts, but its difficult without testing them all to know what would suit as Im unfamiliar with mining or boring type connections.
Currently Im investigating ETA and also a multi start acme thread...
Hi,
Im designing a system for drilling using ~1.750" OD Drill rods.
Im looking for a connection that is very strong for tension and compression, and also torque, but is relatively easy to make and break.
Has anyone experience using ETA threads, multi start stub acme threads or similar?
Regards
Thanks people,
Im wondering if the figure I have from the client is including other heat losses or also gas dissolved in the water?
The annular space where the heaters reside and flow moves, is 7.6" OD and a 2.5" ID (minus the area of 12* 20mm heaters). Using 10 or 11 1m long 5KW heaters (1 x...
Hi,
MFJewell - I don't have one, I'm not familiar with this sort of thing if I'm honest, but if you have one that you would recommend then I would look at obtaining a copy, but this is why I posted on here for a bit of a head start.
LittleInch - the 450 kw number has come from the client who...
I have been tasked with designing an electric water heater for application in a restricted space (long and narrow pipe).
The heater needs to heat water from 18 deg C to 28 Deg C at a flow rate of 60-90 GPM. It will be powered via a 3 phase supply limited to 5KV @ 140 amps.
Im thinking of...
Rick,
Thanks, although Im not totally sure what you mean?
I have modelled up and 3D printed a modified stub acme 4 TPI 4 start tapered thread which looks like it would work well. However, the lead is so steep that if the thread was not torqued up at all, the lower rod would unscrew from the...
Imagine this as a borehole rig which may help, so a Morse taper is not really appropriate.
What I was referring to earlier is used on ejector drills...
Thanks Ted,
Im fairly familiar with typical API threads (I work in the oil industry). However, most of them require being torques up and broken out with power tongs. I was wondering about the threads used in tool holders for live tooling?
Hello,
Im designing a milling/drilling machine that uses 1.750" diameter low alloy steel drill rods. Im needing a connection for connecting multiple drill rods together. currently, we use a 1" square drive and dowel pin, but I'm not totally happy with it. Does anyone know of a thread that...
Thanks Guys!
Gregs answer gives me ~ 0.97" for the amplitude and for my purpose this is accurate enough for now. Ill investigate the more detailed answers when I get to that stage.
Thanks for all your help.
Hi all,
Im trying to design a sinewave torroid (Im not sure of its actual name but look up Shark Wheels for reference). To do this I am needing to get a specific arc length across a period, by adjusting the 'amplitude' of the wave.
I know the Arc Length that I need to achieve (for 1 period of...
Well The rod will be spun (its essentially a drill shaft), however when locked it wont be spun. The lock mechanism is to temporarily prevent the rod from being pumped out of the body of the tool due to a piston effect from pressure across its X-sec area. I was going to use either a collet or...
Hi,
My first post here so I'm not sure if this is the correct Forum, please feel free to move if its not in the right area.
I'm looking to design a ball bearing lock mechanism similar to that found in quick-lock connectors or airline PCL connections
