Hi all,
thanks for your swift and very good replies.
I have become more convinced (searched google heavily today) that casted hooks cannot be used for reasons that you have all mentioned, and especially because of the porosity that will happen due to air cooling of the casted part.
I think...
Hi all,
I have a task to design a specific lifting hook, and the total quantity we need per year is 20pcs.
Now to the specifics. Many of the lifting hooks that are purchased as standard parts from various manufacturers like Crossby, ELD etc etc, are all forged parts. They very often comply to...
Hi,
First of all i use Creo 2, but i remember vaquely that the process should be similar. Please do not hold that against me if below does not work :-).
To make the outer diameter the datum plane, i create a plane that is tangent to outer diameter surface. Then for the newly created plane i...
Hi,
To my knowledge the cross section can only be prismatic when using beam elements in Workbench. So if i were to make a beam with varying cross section i would divide the total length of the beam into minor divisions and then adjust the cross section for each division. So the beam would look...
Hi there,
when i do beams of varying X-section i create sketches of the specific X-section dimensions at differet planes. Then i select the "Skin/Loft" option. Then i Ctrl + select the specific sketches in the Tree Outline and generate. See attached picture.

Hi Henry,
You write that the parts interpenetrate eachother during the FEA. This indicates to me that you are using either Bonded or Free Interfaces. You should use Contact Interfaces instead. Using this interface, Creo recognise the selected surfaces and will now transfer the contact forces...
Hi,
I think that your problem can be that as a default Creo has ticked all "Sketcher Constraints Assumptions" boxes. This means that when you draw a new rectangle or any shape for that matter it will snap to all possible constraints.
If you go into File->Options->Sketcher, under "Sketcher...
Hi
my first question would be: Is the Autosave option ticked under Tools -> Preferences -> Save? If not, then i would also not expect MathCad to use the folder :-).
I have mine set for Autosave every 30 min, and this fills up the Autosave folder with "bad" files from time to time. This is why i...
Hi!
I have had the same issue with MathCad crashing when trying to save files. After a lot of reading i found out that the MathCad Autosave folder from time to time fills up with to many files. I therefore once every week delete the content of the folder and now i do not have this issue...
Hi,
i dont have any of the trouble you have when i run a lite simulation. The only difference that occurs, after i have made changes to the model, is that the checked mark after analysis is gone. Then i just press run again and the models runs just fine.
See the picture attached.
I then tried...
Hi examorph,
just a quick question.
Are yo trying to run ANSYS in a directory which you dont have write access to?
Not sure but i think that you need administrators rights to run ANSYS. Maybe you could right click the *.exe file and click Run as administrator.
Good luck
Best Regards
Hi dgallup,
hope i have understood your problem correct.
I have just tested Simulate Lite with the following setup:
1. Created a model - 2. Opened Simulate Lite - 3. Gone thru the Process Guide (Materials, Constaints ,...., Results) - 4. Result of analysis shows up just fine - 5. Added an...
Hi
If the stress and deformation on the pliers are the main focus on the analysis, you could also just analyse a single handle.
But again i always try to keep problems as simple as possible, because if it is one thing i have learned over the years it is that engineers tend to make a simple...
Hi,
In my opinion you are partly right regards your moment balance. You are correct that there needs to be a moment balance, but if you intend to use a manually calculated reaction force at the cutting edge then i am sure that the model will never converge. The reason being that you will never...
Hi Matos11,
first of all my main area is not FEA so it might be that my information to you is not 100% correct :-).
Comments to your boundary condition:
When looking at the pliers, using the link you referred to in your first comment, it can be seen that the pin connection can not be modelled...
Hi Matos11,
if you look at the pliers you can see it probably consists of 3 parts, Left Handle, Right Handle and a Lock Pin (2 parts if the lock pin in integrated into one of the handles). I have disregarded the insulation on the handles. If you know your beam theory, one could chose to look at...
Hi,
i were a little quick in my earlier reply. I didn't notice you wanted an example. See the attached file.
Also i noticed that you write "I=b*h^3/12 in relation to the center of mass". This is not correct. Is should be in relation to centre of cross-sectional area. A plane (Surface) does not...
Hi,
from what i understand you should read up on Parallel-Axis Theorem for Moment of inertia, if you want to find the Moment of inertia around an axis which is not the centre of the x-section.
Also see the link: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Second_moment_of_area

Hi rmix22,
thanks for your input.
IRstuff let me on the way to the solution which works for me. One of the problems was that i had difficulties using units, because the subscript does not like this. So i tried my way around and came to a more simple setup.
And you are correct, the initial...
