Hello,
We have a job that requires ANSI Y.14.5M – 1982 tolerances however, we currently do not have that standard in house. What is the tolerances on 1,2, and 3 decimal dimensions?
Thanks!
Hi Guys!
I am trying to have a nice finish with dry lube spray on some parts however the dry lube does not stick on the parts or they come out pretty easy. Is there anything I can do ?
Thanks!
Hi guys!
We are case-hardening 1018 steels here at work (0.003"-0.005" Deep). I was just curious what would be the HRC value when we test those parts within 0.003-0.005" with Vickers? We are finding them 30-35HRC lately. Do you guys think they are soft? What would be the min-max HRC value for...
Thank you for the information!
So for 17-4 PH (AMS 5643) H1025, we will have to heat treat them at 1900F +/-25 (In Endothermic gas furnace) and fast cool to <90F (Air Cool). Then put them in the draw at 1025F for about 4 hours? Is there a difference between aging and tempering? if then, what...
Hi Guys!
I am working on a project and I am asked to heat treat 17-4 PH steel(AMS 5643) to H1025. What would be the best way to heat treat such a material ?
Thank you!
Hi Dhurjati,
That is an Endothermic furnace. We had problems with one of our generators so we run 2 furnaces with only 1 generator for a while. We have a problem with harden the parts lately.. They won't get any harden than 40-45 HRC when they need to be 55. We use Endothermic gas and natural...
Hi Guys!
I was just curious about how to reduce the dew point in the furnace... Endothermic generator's dew point is as we want. but whenever we checked the furnace dew point, it shows 70 when it's supposed to be 55. We first figured there is water in the endo gas pipes for some reason, even...
Hi Bob,
Thank you for helping out! We just received our dew point analyzer and the dew point of our endothermic gas generator is 68... Is there a way to decrease it to 35-40? Is it anything to do with air/gas ratio which is 2.8 at the moment?
Thanks!
I tried again today and the parts "again" did not get hardened thru 50-52 HRC. First load came out around 45 and the second load came out around 40... I do not understand why it is happening. We used to have a problem with hard parts couple months ago and now we do have soft parts and we cannot...
Hi bobjustbob,
Thank you for your time and respond. We are trying to harden the parts to 50-52 hrc range usually. The furnace is set to 1575 F degrees, oil temp. is set to 110 but after 2-3 times using it, it goes up to 140 degrees. Do you think that the oil being 140 degrees might affect it...
Hi Guys,
I am currently having some problem in our endothermic gas furnace for oil quench. The parts do not get HRC 50-52 Hardness. They stay at HRC 45 after quench usually.
We have Nitrogen, Endothermic gas and natural gas for the atmosphere of the furnace. Nitrogen kicks in when we put the...
Hi Guys!
We temper our parts after oil quenching. The furnace that tempering happens in provides a lot of smoke once the operator opens the door. The hole building gets all cloudy all day and the smoke&smell give the other operators headache.
Does anybody know what might cause that and how I...
Thanks for the answers!! I am now trying to see if we are wrong in timing so I have couple more questions...
1)How long should I temper it at the beginning of the process? (500 degrees for 1144 steel)
2)What would be the ideal oil temperature and how long should I quench ?
3)What would be the...
Hi Bob,
We want them to have RC50-52 hardness. Yes, That seems like the only acceptance criteria. Before quench and temper, they are in RC40-45 range hardness.
So, as you say "The section size really does not matter beyond soaking time", Does it mean that even if the part more than an inch or...
Hi Guys!
Thanks for following up on the issue. Let me explain the process then I can hopefully get your thoughts.
The material is 1144 Steel. The hardness before quenching is RC40-45. The furnace is set up 1575 degrees. (I tried 1550 and it was harder than before..). The smallest cross section...
