    Slug flow vs Wave Flow

Looking at the iso, it would be good to know the slug length. Obviously no lengths on the iso, but im guessing that section you've clouded is comparatively short? You need a good straight length of line for a slug to form. if the calculated slug length is comparable to the lengths of straight...

    Slug flow vs Wave Flow

What is the slug length Aspen has calculated? Are there significant straight lengths where slug flow could fully develop? Going from 3" to 6" is a significant jump, both in cost and space terms. I wouldn't be making that change without a thorough analysis.

    Is PSV required here?

Just to add to this I had an issue recently on a plant where significant re-engineering was required right at the end of EPC. During HAZOP an overpressure scenario was not considered credible because there was a 11/2" vent on a compressor gearbox. This vent was not nearly large enough for the...

    GPSA Compressor performance calculations

    Great advice thanks georgeverghese!

    GPSA Compressor performance calculations

I've been able to source the HP curve from the vendor.... though I'd still be interested to hear if anyone had any thoughts on my original question above.

    Is PSV required here?

Whats the design pressure of the nitrogen system? if it is higher than that of the downstream system connected for purging then there is a valid overpressure case and you need to determine if relief is necessary. If you are going to rely on an open vent on the downstream system, then as a worst...

    GPSA Compressor performance calculations

Thanks again georgeverghese! I have another question(s), perhaps you can help me..... I'm asking this after already asking lots of people in the client office I'm based in, and also people back at the design house. I am wanting to complete compressor performance calculations using GPSA method...

    GPSA Compressor performance calculations

Thanks for the replies georgeverghese, very helpful! I continued to do some digging on this and I think I've found the answer. In App B1 of "A Practical Guide to Compressor Technology, Second Edition, By Heinz P. Bloch", theres a run though of compressor performance calcs. It shows that...

    GPSA Compressor performance calculations

Hello, I am completing a relief calculation for a PSV on the discharge of a compressor. I am using GPSA engineering handbook method for eveluating compressor performance. I am having some difficulty interpreting the calculation methodology in GPSA Section 13, compressors. Specifically equation...
