Actually, adding additional sketch elements is a very viable approach.
It just takes a little more trial and error to get the right contour separation.
As for the PDM issue...
This array I did was a development/research project created to aid in incorporating all known engineering best...
Thank you all,
I changed my approach and got what I need.
Too bad about the base capability in SW.
Did not mean to criticize the software.
But I did learn from all of this an additional method that will work.
Would not have noticed it were it not for the input from everyone.
FYI....
I am now...
I thought I would try to show an example pictorially of what I mean in the event someone has a trick Ive not found yet.
Some times a picture better communicates the concept.
I am trying to accomplish this is for one of my customers who uses Solidworks and need to pass the file on to them so...
I must beg to differ that generating multiple secondary sketches into which portions of geometry are added via convert entities is not a hit to efficiency and time.
In this case, more than 45 secondary sketches would have to be created to support the content of the part design i am creating...
I have been trying to extrude only one or two lines of a complex sketch and can't seem to prevent the entire sketch (or contours) from being selected.
I have created a large sketch which I use as a master for multiple solids within one part file, similar to what the Pro-E people do.
I do not...
I have an application which requires a high number of an independent component to be distributed uniformly along a 3D surface of another part.
The 3D surface transitions from flat to curved.
I have applied iso-parametric curves to this surface in the form of face curves.
I then applied a series...
This is not a reference set issue since the model geometry resides in the drawing file and not in any of the components.
This used to work.
I need to have geometry, either curves or solids, which are created in the modeling module within the drawing file to show in any created view when in the...
I work in master model mode in NX9.
When I create a linked body in a drawing file from one of its components, that linked body will not show up in any drafting views when I switch to the drawing.
Is there a setting to enable the display of this linked model geometry in drawing views within the...
Can notes be added to a sketch in modeling but not within a sketch dimension.
I need to label elements in a sketch (ex. points in a series).
I am using NX8.
Thanks
DI
Thanks very much.
I have done just that. (I used a .png file).
By-the-way.....
I found that if you export a CGM file you can get some lines and arcs to come thru from the imported pictures.
Too bad there is no graphing functionality within the expression editor.
It would be very useful for...
I use NX8 and need to include on a drawing a graph driven by spread sheet data.
Or, can a picture of a chart be added in its place.
Either needs to be printable and plot-able.
Is this possible?
Back in UG V15, you could insert a (floor) command in an expression which will reduce, or round down, the given value to the nearest single integer.
So you would create a new expression and make it equal to: (floor)p123 if I remember the syntax correctly.
The same would be true for the...
I have been a designer full time NX since early 1984 (UG V4 thru UG V16 and then NX thru NX8) working mostly in the automotive and medical device arenas.
I started using Solidworks in my small design services business (from SW2008 thru SW2014).
I actually found it harder to go from NX to SW...
Hello,
I need to understand how to remove very complex interiors (containing thousands of faces) from solids using the delete face function.
I became very dependent on the older simplify body feature, with which I was blindingly fast, and now can't seem to find the corresponding methodology in...
If you have Adobe Acrobat, you can import a 3D file into a pdf.
I believe it will accept stl and parasolid formats.
Any acrobat reader will allow 3D manipulation and measuement and sectioning, but the data is not exportable so its safe to share.
You just need Acrobat. I think you can use the...
I have an assembly which contains both internal (virtual) and external (independant) components.
The components are not visible in at the assembly level.
They are there in the assembly tree and are taged as visible but don't show in the graphics window.
I can open each component seperately and...
