How to determine variable amplitude in a fatigue analysis

I am more interested in improving industry standards, and right now it seems that products are getting onto the market without being fully vetted. Again, if other industries have introduced random high loads (e.g. load applied after hitting a pothole), i'd be interested to know how a loading...

How to determine variable amplitude in a fatigue analysis

A medical device like a joint replacement would be loaded in vivo with loads that can vary tremendously over the course of a day. Current iso standards of a knee replacement, for example, are just to load the knee replacement with loads comparable to walking which have loads that vary in...

How to determine variable amplitude in a fatigue analysis

In addition, are there any iso or astm standards that the industry uses for variable amplitude loading fatigue tests?

How to determine variable amplitude in a fatigue analysis

I am in the process of setting up some mechanical fatigue test of a medical device. I’d like to load the device ___ times with a daily activity load, and then load it once with a high impact load, and then go back to ___ times of a daily activity load. I've seen engineers in other industries...

element number - centroid mises stress

abaqus 6.10 If I know the element number in question, can I query the centroid mises stress of that element (w/o using probe)? If I have more than one element number in question, can abaqus/cae generate a .txt file for example? Thanks.

    abaqus cae contact problem example

Is there a very good intro contact problem example online you guys can recommend? If you can point me in the right direction, it would be greatly appreciated. Crack propagation would also be something I'd like to take a look at.

    How to improve mesh quality

abaqus 6.10 I have a tet mesh, and have a several element warnings when I go to Mesh->Verify. Can you please walk me through the steps need to improve / remesh the model? Thank you.

Need help applying a concentrated force (units)

Trying to create a concentrated force Load in CAE. I select a point on my model that I believe is associated with a node. The size of the model is in mm. I would like to apply a force in 3 directions (CF1: -880 Newtons, CF2: 1726N, CF3: 540N). I converted these numbers to -880000 kgmm/s^2...

How do I mesh two different objects of different materials as one (Abaqus CAE)?

Note: abaqus cae says "the highlighted regions failed to mesh due to poor boundary triangles or other problems, and you may be able to work around these problems using virtual topology, finer local seeds, or mesh editing". I am also new to abaqus cae and wanted to know if there's an easy way to...

How do I mesh two different objects of different materials as one (Abaqus CAE)?

I have two CAD (.stp) parts of somewhat complex geometry. They share a common surface are have two different material properties. I followed rstupplebeen's advice (thread799-284328) "Add material properties to the parts. Add both parts to the assembly. Instance>Merge/Cut (see image)", was...

fatigue - hand calculation help needed

i'd also be looking to load it 10 million times. i'll be happy to provide additional info if needed.

fatigue - hand calculation help needed

Looking at 3 different diameters with a single load, the stress in the Cobalt-Chrome beam were 693, 520, and 400MPa, respectively. I don't have either of the manuals. Is the table public information? Let me know if you can help further. Thanks.

fatigue - hand calculation help needed

I'm trying to determine the endurance limit of a cylindrical cantilever beam (e.g. cylinder attached to a wall). Question: if I apply a load to it over and over again, will it eventually fail? Is there a simply engineering hand calculation that can be done to solve this? Thanks

minimum wall thickness for tapped hole

can't use locktite (medical application so it needs to be sterilized), and the set screw needs to be able to be removed if the axle needs replacement. The set screw isn't meant to hold down the axle, rather prevent it from sliding in and out of a transverse hole. I was going to add a c-clip to...

minimum wall thickness for tapped hole

the set screw and hole would be CoCr or titanium alloy. It would be rather small. Looking at possibly 8-36 UNF set screw. Hand tightened. The set screw will be used to hold a transverse axle in place. No bursting in this application :)
