    HSS truss welded connections

For welded connections, I've always gone with the theory of the max weld thickness (leg length, not throat thickness) is the thickness of the base metal. I've come across some info in the CISC - Design Guide for HSS Connections that says the IIW (International Institute for Welding) recommends...

    Masonry cost estimating

The location will be around metro New York, so I would imagine labor costs will be on the high side.

    Masonry cost estimating

I was wondering if anyone had a rough all-inclusive(materials and labor) estimating cost they used for masonry? Looking for a rough cost, either per block, or square foot for a fully grouted 8" block with vertical reinforcement every 24". I have the NCMA Tek's for material estimating, just...

    Stirrups in Lintel Beams

Are stirrups typically used in lintel beams? I have designed a 4' span and a 12' span lintel, and both meet requirements (MSJC-05 STR & ASD) without stirrups. I just find it a little unsettling not having stirrups, but if this is common practice I can leave the design as is.

    Bond Beam Location

JKW05, Thanks for the joint reinforcement question. Sometimes you overlook things when you have nobody to check your work. Block size is 8", so I'll revise the spacing to fit in evenly. I believe it originally was 24", until the project manager (mech) wanted larger spacing due to $$. The 36"...

    Bond Beam Location

Thank you for the replies. Also, I apologize for the late response as I just got back from vacation. Now, I'll get into more specifics to get an idea if my design is on track. The location of the buildings is Connecticut. The first building is a steel frame with an eave height of 24'. There...

    Bond Beam Location

Jed, You replied " It seems excessive to me and I've never seen it used. But I guess it's there." Do you mean that a bond beam every 10' is a bit excessive? If so, please explain. I'm not trying to test you here, I'm trying to gather some insight on if a bond beam(s) is required in my...

    Steel Frame Masonry Infill Building

I was speaking of lateral drift. The columns are considered free(bottom) and fixed(top). There is no horizontal actual diaphragm, only the roof rafters, which is not an actual truss, just w-sections. The building is like this to accommodate a crane. The building cannot be pure masonry, it has...

    Steel Frame Masonry Infill Building

I'm currently designing a rigid steel frame building, single story, and masonry infill is required. The masonry is mainly for sound damping purposes and not for strength. The building is 35' wide, and 55' long, with an eave height of 24'. There is no bracing or horizontal members to transfer...
