What is maximum test pressure I can subject a pipeline to with class 900 flange connected to it. The pipeline test pressure at 90% smys is 241barg but the only flange pressure rating I can find (MSS SP 44, 16.5) appears to be for a lesser material A105 with rating of around 153barg. This...
ASME B31.4 requires isolation valves to be installed at major river crossings. ASME B31.8 does not. We have a multi phase trunkline collecting well fluids that are mostly liquid which crosses a river (small channel 5m but large flood plain upto 500m flooding in wet season). As it's multi phase...
following welding of a full encirclement split tee onto a live pipeline that will be used for a hot tap tie-in connection the tee is pressure tested. The hot tap supplier typically undertakes a leak test using nitrogen to prove the welds.
- is a leak test sufficient or should this be a strength...
how long does a dry pipeline stay dry?
We are planning on drying with super dry air. The drying specs calls for -20degC dew point and to be left at +ve pressure 0.5 to 1.0 barg. If this is proven by soak testing how long can it be expected to stay at -20degC dew point? as long as temperature...
Agree, What I meant was there is no bending at the moment but this could change if settlement occurs, hence 1102 not suitable as it does not include bending. Regards the curves some are limited to 3.0m depth - why would interpolating based on curve trending for lower depth not work - obviously...
Thanks,
It looks like some of the curves are limited to 3.0m depth but these could be interpolated to lower valves for deeper pipes. 1102 doesn't appear to be limited to circumfrencial stress only. It does include an effective stress check with the longitudinal expand stress. There is no bending...
We have a road embankment planned to go over our pipeline which would increase depth of cover over the pipeline by approx. 8m bringing total cover to 10m. Typically we would use API 1102 but have heard this is limited to shallow depths only i.e. <3m. Is anyone aware if API 1102 is still usefull...
We are looking to carryout a risk assessment for multiple hot taps with stopple interventions. Does anyone know good sources for industry failure data that may be used to support determination of failure frequency/ probability.
This could potentially be done for one if data was avialble.. any...
Basically, the existing national transmission system we are working with has internal liquid epoxy lining 40 microns. We are tie-ing in to the system over a relatively short distance and see no benefit of having the coating. The question was raised as it's possible that the operator would...
Check out Novembers 'World Pipelines'issue. Article by 3M claims internal coatings increase capacity by 14 - 21%. A 1% improvement in throughput provides the financial justification.
Looking at valves (ball) for a pig trap and thinking DPE (one side only)for pig trap isolation valve giving double block isolation. Thinking similar for pig trap bypass valve but maybe DPE both sides as pressure coming from both sides - any ideas?

We have a gas pipeline with internal epoxy coating. If methanol swabbing as a drying technique is used could this potentially damage the internal coating?
What code would a stabilized gas condensate export pipeline fall under? This is transported as a liquid so would it be B31.4 or as its gas condensate would it be B31.8
