Hi all
I´m reviewing a building where we have 2 stories of concrete podium and 4 stories of ligth gage steel framing. The floor plan is like a C whith an elevator and stairs shafts in both sides.
I have a couple of questions:
1. Is it possible for the steel framing to be the main LFRS?
2. If...
Hi all!
PhamENG I´ve a question. Whan you say detailed the diaphragm accordingly, do you think its possible to detail the collectors in a metaldeck diaphragm?
I´m currently reviewing a mid rise on cold formed steel (5 stories) over a concrete podium.
Hi milkshakelake:
Thanks for the information. Sure as Celt83 and MotorCity say´s X bracing or steel sheating are a more common solution, we design all of our projects that way, but in this case we have no walls complying the base to heigth relations in one of the building directions.
I´ll go...
Hi:
Does anyone knows if there is a way to use cold formed steel framing beams and columns like in a moment frame?
I know there is a prequalified beam to column detail in the AISI using the HSS column and the framing beam, but i have a complex project where HSS steel is not an option. Also I´m...
Thanks Backcheckrage, that´s really helpful:
Actually I used the recomendations on the Canterbury residential code in my designs, because i couln´t find anything like it in our codes. That guide work´s fine for us.
I saw Firth´s typical details for rib raft TC3 and there´s no shear stirrups or...
HI,
Does anyone knows the New Zealand way to design a waffle slab for foundations under liquefable conditions?
Our company is based in Costa Rica and we´re developing a project in liquable sands, so we are trying to replicate the new zealand way.
I´ve seen companies like Firth Concrete in New...
Hi:
Does anyone have experience with diagonal strap bracing instalation in ligth gage steel framing construction?
I'm trying to find a method to get the proper tension of straps over 80 mm width. We have plenty experience with traditional tensioners but i couldn´t find any type of tensioner...
WaRose:
Sure we use the AISI and take into account all the possible buckling modes in design. We are looking mostly an analisys tool, to make lateral analisys a bit easier, to avoid performing stiffness and deformation analisys manually.
We are at the same time, designers and manufacturers...
Hi,
You should read the AISI S-213. It explains lateral design. Also for Seismic regions AISI S-400. Here my suggestions:
1- You can model it like a box with perpendicular lateral resisting systems, this way you avoid excentricity in the stiffness. Studs should be designed to comply with axial...
Hi,
Does anyone knows a software to perform structural analysis of ligth gage cold formed steel structures? I'm using CFS 10 from RGS software, but it just perform section capacity analysis, so most of my calculations are performed manually using spreadsheets and principles of mechanics...
Hi everyone:
I'm struggling with the design of a green roof made with cables (or a doubly curved cable net). Specifically with the analysis.
It's a complex structure using cables with double curvature similar to the Sydney's Aurora Place (see image)
Does anyone know a software or approximate...
