Hi all, Looking some guidance on b

Thanks for replies folks- yes the problem stemmed from the construction started before the actual plans were fully approved by our building control, sounds crazy but the reason for this was that the funders were holding us to a very tight time frame for completion.

Hi all, Looking some guidance on b

trickle ventilation Looking some guidance on background ventilation to a community building Im working on. Building Control are asking for a mechanical vent system to be installed. Surely there has to be a simpler alternative to this eg holes in walls, vents in roof. Problem is our funder wants...

I'm reading safe load table for UB's and just wondering what does deflection coefficients mean?

    steel design software

thanks all, ive downloaded freecad and tried it but id like something with which i enter the beam size, span and end connections . I had mechanical desktop a few years back an it might be suitable

    steel design software

I'm searching about for a reasonably priced structural steel design program. One which I could purchase without the monthly payments . Are there any decent freeware programs available?

    wind uplift

Hi, IM designing a portal frame building (15m wide x 30 m long ,6 m to eaves) and im wondering could i assume wind uplift to be zero since there are only 3 smallish door openings and window openings are also minimal. Any thoughts?

    portal bracing

CEL, I,m not guessing, probably used that phrase loosely there. Anyway I'm coming up with a wind load (Wk) figure of 0.52 kn/square metre. I assume that I compare this with the dynamic wind load for the building (q)? The structure has been built a year ago and there's no problems with it to date.

    portal bracing

I have a 178x89 channel turned toe down right along the top of wall so I would guess that is sufficent

    portal bracing

Cheers, got it sorted using those little resolution of forces diagrams. Building Control are asking me for a design on wall panels. Would I be required to do a design on this? The walls are 2.5metres high cavity wall with 140 block inner leaf,no vertical loads on walls, just built between...

    portal bracing

I know I should, but I've done all the other calcs except for this, and I'm out of work at the minute.

    portal bracing

Hi all, Looking for some tips on how to calculate portal frame bracing sizes.(roof, vertical) It's a simple single span,5 bay building,6 metres to eaves, roof slope 10 deg. 4.75m between frames, walls built to 2.4 metres. Thanks

    horizontal forces on base

I'm trying to calculate horizontal force on a portal frame base. Following the procedure in EC3 manual for design of steelwork and coming up with 1.37 kn. Is this too small a figure for a frame of 18 metre span,6 metre eaves height? I compared it to similar sized frame calculations done by other...
