SE Exam New format April 2024

According to NCEES no results this week either, Week 14. Absolutely pathetic that it takes nearly 4 months to grade a computer based test.

SE Exam New format April 2024

NCEES has decided to not stick to the original 10-13 week timeline they gave. The plot thickens...

SE Exam New format April 2024

After the exam I got a NCEES summary sheet saying the results would be released in 10-13 weeks. This is week 12 so we are still within this window. The SE exam meeting was June 7-8 according to the NCEES newsletter so I'm not sure what the hold up is. For pen and paper tests the results...

SE Exam New format April 2024

Anyone want to guess when the exam results will be released? Rumor is there is a lawsuit in New Jersey over the exam? Only source for that is a reddit post from a few weeks ago so I don't put much faith in that being true.

    Bolt and Nut Specification Issue

Thanks for the feedback guys! I removed the sentence for locknuts with the TC bolts. This note was originally taken from another project and this issue was resolved through an RFI on the other project but was never corrected on the plans. Will be more careful next time when pulling notes from...

    Bolt and Nut Specification Issue

I'm working on an upcoming railroad bridge project and we have received a bid question from a contractor. The structure is a RR bridge with welded plate girder and a steel plate deck. The general notes for our plans states "Bolts connecting the deck plate to the girder shall be F3125 Grade 1852...

SE Exam New format April 2024

As someone who took the bridge lateral that is not what I wanted to hear. I would not be surprised if the pass rate is less than 10%. I'm not Washington based so I guess there's a chance I passed?

SE Lateral - Bridge Study Tips

Haven't seen any posts of people studying for the upcoming SE exam. I'm taking the depth portion for lateral bridges and I feel like there isn't much study material out there for this part of the exam. I have the AEI SE lateral problems, but I'm looking for more beyond this. This is the first...

    SE Exam October 2023

Thanks SteamedHams. I really appreciate the detailed breakdown. I took a closer look at my diagnostic and I was not far from passing with the ASCE 7 being my weak point. Going to take a week or two off and get back to studying to retake in April!

    SE Exam October 2023

Congratulations! Out of curiosity what resources did you use to study for the lateral portion?

Wide flange beam section with J at end?

It's not much of a drawing, more a revision markup of the drawing from a contractor. I asked if the J at the end of the section designation was a typo and was told it is correct. The section is a W14x211J. Apparently the contractor has a bunch of these sections and wants to use them.

Wide flange beam section with J at end?

I'm currently reviewing a soldier pile design and I came across a section designation that I have not seen before. The piles are W sections with the letter J at the end. It seems this is being added to section with flanges that are greater than 1.5" thick. I looked in the steel manual and there...
