Position INDIVIDUALLY w.r.t. Datum Targets INDIVIDUALLY?

Thanks for the input Double-Edge. The image I provided might be causing some confusion and respecting the fact that I can't show my actual work, I simply grabbed this from the Y14.5-2018 standard as an example. But if you can imaging the thru hole being my tapped hole (1 of 3) and the...

Position INDIVIDUALLY w.r.t. Datum Targets INDIVIDUALLY?

Good point about the spherical degrees of freedom. I could establish orientation with a second FCF, Perpendicular to Datum A collectively. I could also make the tapped holes the Datum Features and control other features relative those and an additional datum feature perpendicular to the tapped...

Position INDIVIDUALLY w.r.t. Datum Targets INDIVIDUALLY?

The image I posted is just the example from the standard I'm researching. I've used this before, but never with Datum Targets. For example I have critically positioned v-grooves that are oriented perpendicular to the center of optical alignment on a reflective surface. Each v-groove is...

Position INDIVIDUALLY w.r.t. Datum Targets INDIVIDUALLY?

Hi, Is there an issue Positioning FoS INDIVIDUALLY to Datum Targets INDIVIDUALLY? Similar to Figure 10-27 from the 2018 standard? https://files.engineering.com/getfile.aspx?folder=b29c83a9-c30b-4acd-81ae-e27e8e9385e7&file=INDIVIDUALLY.PNG

Non-symmetrical Pattern of FoS used as a Datum Feature

Hi, I'd like to callout a 3 hole pattern as a single Datum feature (B for example). The holes are not inline nor are they about a common axis, but rather form somewhat of an L pattern (1 hole in the corner and another hole to the right and above). Calling out the patterns will derive mid-planes...

    3 Ball Kinematic DWG Definition

3DDave, that's a fair point about the spherical contacts on the v-grooves. In reality, there will only be a single contact point on each surface of the 2 surface v-grooves (3x v-grooves and a total of 6 contact points).

    3 Ball Kinematic DWG Definition

So, this is part of the reason I made this inquiry, and why I was tolerancing this 'similar' to datum targets, which is because I know the tolerances of the spherical components that interface these v-grooves and I was trying to incorporate those. I know Datum Targets fall under gauged maker...

    3 Ball Kinematic DWG Definition

It's a metallic, pedestal mirror, and the 3D image I provided is not the same part (just a common example grabbed from the web). I am defining the v-grooves with a Basic angle, and the v-grooves are tangent with the toleranced spheres on both sides.

    3 Ball Kinematic DWG Definition

Burunduk, thank you for pointing that out, maybe it does make sense to just apply spherical datum targets, removing the Position FCF, and leaving it up to Gauge Maker tolerances. I have the feel the Checkers here will have an issue with that, but if it's a sound callout, I'm okay trying to push...

    3 Ball Kinematic DWG Definition

Hi, I'm defining a classic 3 ball, 3 radial v-groove kinematics mount and thinking of treating the 3 radial v-grooves similar to datum targets (spheres instead of circular areas) and in doing so this will lock all 6 degrees of freedom. 3X datum feature "A" of these radial spheres should be all...
