    Vibration or improper pretension?

Well, thank you all for your input. Let me see if we can all agree on a few points.... 1. There is no way to tell if the bolts were pretensioned correctly in the first place. 2. Proper Pretension is all that is required to overcome vibration. 3. Bolt replacement will be necessary, and use...

    Vibration or improper pretension?

DarthSoilsGuy and HgTX, I am also under the same impression that a fully pre-tensioned nut and bolt is the way to go. But I'm sure you know as well as I do, in the field, no ones work is flawed. The "make sure they do it right" is the tough part. On a conveyor system, with 1000 bolts and...

    Vibration or improper pretension?

Dik, Yes there is a possibility that I can use loctite, but the owner will ask what is the advantage of loctite compared to the anco lock nut used before. I don't have that kind of data to say that one lock nut is better then another, and all the testing I've seen out there is used to sell one...

    Vibration or improper pretension?

Mike, I have thought about damaging the threads as well, and that may be the way I go, but from some of the other threads I've read here, there were people who disagreed with that method. It may end up being my only choice. I have also thought about reinforcing the whole conveyor in this...

    Vibration or improper pretension?

Thank you rb1957, I'm not 100% sure what an "Anti-rotation bracket" nor how it's used. I've been everywhere looking for a sure fire way to stop the nut from backing off. Since they already used lock-nuts, I could try another type of lock-nut, but I don't know that I'll have any success...

    Vibration or improper pretension?

Hello all, I've been combing these forums and other sources concerning pre-tensioning, the use of lock nuts and vibration in structural applications. The consensus seems to be that if a bolt is properly pretensioned then it should not back off no matter what the vibration is in the system...

    Titanium Spreader Bar

I'm into territory that I've not been in before. Titanium Alloys. I have this spreader bar (basic simply supported beam) that is to be made of Cp Ti Gr2 (ASTM B348 Gr2). It is in the shape of a milled dumbbell with the thinner diameter of 1.875" @ 69.5” long and the end diameters of 2.5" @...

    sloping moment connection @ roof

Thanks for your input shemp. For the decking, well, I was contracted to perform the calculations on the connections only, but depending on the design of the building this could be accoounted for in a few different ways. If there are purlins over the main girders to support the deck then...

    sloping moment connection @ roof

I have a situation where I need to design sloping moment connections at the roof in rigid frames for a 4 story medical facility. I cannot seem to find much information on sloping moment connections. So I have a few questions. 1) is there any good resource where I can find information about...

    HSS moment connection

I have a situation where the client wants the design of a HSS end plate moment connection designed in ASD. It's been difficult to find information on the design of HSS moment connections let alone in ASD. Is there any design supplement that offers this? Where can I find information on...
