    Thank you. That looks like it's the right table. Interesting that in edition 25 a free fit is .2660 for a 1/4 fastener, where in edition 28, that's considered a close fit. Here the close fit is .2570

    Thanks, Desertfox! This may be a silly question, but which 12" are you using in that file? I wasn't quite sure when I looked at it. Also, did you find this in Bruhn, Peery, or learned it through the course of your career? That is a really helpful trick that should be taught, IMHO.
