Protection of RC Silo walls from excessive heat

HI everyone, We are constructing a number of silos in high heat conditions ( approx. 50 degrees Celsius). We are worried that the cement hydration temperature will exceed 75 degrees Celsius( as it happened with other silos). The method of construction is slip forming. Does anyone know any...

Carrier Shift from Structural (buildings) to Offshore Structural Eng.

Hi Everone. I have a general question regarding a career change. I have 8 years of experience in the design of buildings (steel, concrete, etc.) and thinking about switching to marine (offshore) structural engineering. My job isn't as well paid as I wish, there are crazy deadlines, and I can't...

Eurocde load combination for lateral deflection due to wind

Hi everyone, I am not used to Eurocode as I design mostly in BS. However, I wonder what Eurocode SLS combination with wind do you guys use to check lateral deflection of a portal frame at eaves( due to wind). In BS I always do 1.5 wind + 1.0 Dead..what about in Eurocode? Many thanks!!

stability of the haunch in a rafter

Thank you for your answer. The provided document describes plastic analysis however , I will be designing elastically The approach is to consider different modes of failure in order to validate the haunch section, just the way a member in compersion and bending would be checked Because...

stability of the haunch in a rafter

Hi everyone, I am designing a pitched portal frame elastically and need to check the stability of the haunched section of a rafter. As I don't have an option to use software , I have to do it by hand. I know how to conduct checks (lateral torsional buckling, combined lateral and axial,bending...

    Line load under shear wall?

Hi everyone I have been tasked to provide the value of a line load under a timber wall subjected to wind load. The wall will sit on a beam. I know how to calculate pressure under shear wall/retaining wall, but I have no clue how to approach the problem. All they need is the line load from...

    FEM Flat Slab Design

In my software, I can apply patches ( i.e. strips) over columns, panels, walls and beam. The patches can average the moments. The question is what size of the patches?

    FEM Flat Slab Design

avscorreia The structure above is a light , metal frame( a kind of modular thing). I got the T64 and as many other guides it mentioned irregular layouts but...not so specific.

    FEM Flat Slab Design

Trenno, 2d , you mean 2 times the depth of the slab? Did you average the peak moments?
