The rule of thumb I use is 1 foot per left-turning vehicle in the peak hour. For example, 200 left-turning cars per hour would require about 200 feet of storage.
Thanks for all your responses so far guys!
I was wondering about two seperate types of signal heads in particular, and when each one is supposed to be used and why one is preferred over the other in certain circumstances. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
The two signal heads are 1) four...
what is the difference between those two signal heads (other than the layout of course)?
Is the second layout used for lead/lag left greens, while the first ("doghouse") used for 8 phase signals?
University at Buffalo (a.k.a UB or SUNY Buffalo) has a transportation planning/engineering program. I've had a lot of friends and co-workers go through the program and have all turned out successful.
My advice would be to go out and do traffic counts at a similar location near you. I've noticed that recently I've been using the ITE Trip Gen book less and less because their are many relevant categories that they just don't provide data for. Instead, I've been doing a lot of counting of my own.
^ That's perfect thanks so much. Well I mostly just wanted to get a better feel for actuated versus pretimed because I use HCS a lot and the way other engineers code in the phases with actuated and pretime gets me confused sometimes. And with Synchro, coding in the signal phases there is...
^ It is in Johnstown, NY which I guess is pretty close to Albany. It is a 3 day class put on by ESRI at Fulton County Community College. It is open to anyone that wants to take it, but it is pretty expensive...I think about $1000-$1500. I'm pretty much a newbie myself, I took some lower level...
I'm going to a 3 day seminar this week in Albany, NY to learn some more GIS for my job. (I did take a couple courses in college) But I was just wondering how GIS can be used as a Transportation Planner/Traffic Engineer? What kinds of applications can it be used for in my field?
The only thing...
Hi guys, I'm new to this forum. I'm a relatively new traffic engineer in Buffalo, NY with only a couple years under my belt.
My question has to do with signal phasing...does anyone know where I can find out information on phasing? I'm looking for anything that has do with how many phases a...
