My mentor is recommending I take the CSC Principles of Construction Documents Course. Is there a difference between the courses offered by the different CSC chapters. Both Toronto and Edmonton have online courses offered (Edmonton if outside of the Edmonton Area) in September this year so I'm...
A mechanical unit is being added over an existing roof structure. I went to site and found that the roof structure consisted of a 4" slab of concrete-like material (a little less dense) with what looks like a wire mesh at 6" spacing. The steel joists consisted of what looked like a single angle...
If you have RTU screens, snow could pile around the RTU screen but if you have a gap let's say 2'-0", wouldn't that change snow piling. Snow will hit the upper portion of the screen, but the wind could blow it off so is it safe to say that there won't be snow piling. Is there a commentary in the...
Yes curtain wall mullions with a windload anchor fastend to the roof and floor level. It is 2-storey high. And they are adding a sign out of steel studs above one of the mullions. I was going to have the steel stud fastened to my roof and floor deck angle and possibly attach to the mullion as well.
Non-destructive ways on identifying if a precast wall is post-tensioned, pre-tensioned or regular? Is there a width standards for each type? Thickness variations that is mainly for one type?
Thanks guys!
phamEng, I actually have the beam pocket grouted solid in the drawings and got an RFI from the contractor to anchor a plate to the wall instead of grouting the beam pocket solid. They're claiming it will help with schedule and subtrade availability and that it is expensive and they...
Thank you for your reply TigerGuy!
If you don't have medium to high plastic clay/expansive soil, you won't really need to dowel the slab on grade to your foundations then except probably at door locations where you want to keep the slab and foundation moving together to prevent the doors from...
Why is it that most geotechnical reports do not state any recommendations on dowelling slab on grade to grade beams/foundation walls? Is it a standard that they have to be dowelled except for some townhouses? Is dowelling the slabs more of a structural or geotechnical recommendation?
For a steel beam connection to masonry wall, it seems that the standard practice is to have an embed plate in a beam pocket in the masonry wall and the pocket grouted solid. At the roof level, what is the purpose of grouting the beam pocket solid? Are there any structural implications or is it...
