how to simulate contact using shell and contact elements

Hi, It would help to know why it doesn't work. You error message is pretty clear. Assign your real const 1 to shell elements and define a real const 2 for conta / targe elements then give us the error message. Regards

    Effect of "Large deformation ON"

As I said if you use a force instead of a pressure, the load will not be inclined with LD ON.

    Effect of "Large deformation ON"

Hi Aval, I don't think you need a remote force for what you are trying to do. Also, as you describe it, I think you can use Large D OFF, but as you have experimental results and a model that should run fastly, it's a good case to test the two configurations and compare them for a good...

    Effect of "Large deformation ON"

I think the formulation is changed (as when you do a simple F.E. calculation on paper with small deformation and neglect 2nd+ order parts in your integration). Plus, using large deformations, your load (only if you apply a pressure), can follow your deformation. For example, say you model a 3D...

    importing solid model into ansys

I think Solid can export step file, and there should be no problem with stp files.

    importing solid model into ansys

Hi, Did you try STEP files ? + try to create virtual topology with the tool in mechanical (worked quite well for me)

    Error Flexion 3-point

Try using, R,1,0.075 REAL,1 or AATT,1,1,1 Number in AATT or REAL command is the real constant set, not the real constant value. the shape warning will depends on the form of the elements. 3 out of 9800+ elements is almost nothing, just check they are not at the point of interest.

    Error Flexion 3-point

You don't give enough information. Where do you tell Ansys which type and real to use for your areas ? Try using AATT (see the help to use it) or TYPE,X REAL,X MAT,X AMESH,all etc... I think you don't set the real constant to use and thus, Ansys uses the last defined one.

    Error Flexion 3-point

It's just a warning, not an error, i.e. doesn't block the solve, but might lead to errors in your results. Can you copy the lines where the mesh creation is done please ?

    Error Flexion 3-point

Hi, I'm not familiar with orthotropic materials but isn't the value of PRXZ false & impossible ? (> 1) Regards

Meaning of 3rd keypoint in LARC command

Good point :) But still, there are 4 arcs using P1 & P2 if you consider ansys knows the plane in which the arc is located and the center location or radius. It doesn't, and doesn't care either. Ansys just considers you're using LARC for its convenience. Every arc is in 2D, that's the point...

Anisotropic Inelastic material model for a Shell Element

Shell63 are legacy element in ansys 145, use the current advised one, shell181 with plastic capability, you may find what you want there.

Meaning of 3rd keypoint in LARC command

Oh, one more thing, you don't have 4 possible arcs but an infinity.

Meaning of 3rd keypoint in LARC command

This keypoint is kind of an information for Ansys for two things : - You need 3 points to define a plane, thus Ansys can know in which plane to draw your arc - Imagine a line between P1 and P2. Ansys needs to know on which side it has to put the center of your arc. Ex : Say you have P1 (1,0,0)...

    Circular symmetry

Hi yoyo, If you're new to Ansys, try using the help, cyclic symmetry & expansion is well explained in there.

    mechanical Apdl

Well an image showing your BCs and load would be appreciated. No need for a file to send 10 lines of text... When you write : "(i select some node of bottom surface and choose all degree of freedom and put 2 value)." What do you mean by "some nodes" ? Plus, are your endcoils ground or not ...

    mechanical Apdl

Give a screenshot of your load & BCs, can't help you with nothing. Also, what are the results that you have (those you want to compare von Mises stresses to), how did you get them ?

    mechanical Apdl

As I already told you, stresses in compression strings are known with basic, verified formulas. If you really want to view these stresses in Ansys, try viewing maximum or minimum shear stress as compression springs are mostly showing shear stress. Von Mises won't show you anything in that...

    Boundary conditions on rigid bodies

In my opinion, it would be useless in a static analysis :)
