    STAADPRO

Does STAAD-PRO do reinforced concrete beam design? If so, which commands do I use? Thanks

    Career advice

I have a question as it relates to structural engineering. I am a PE with some structural expierience. I am now in a field which requires some structural design which is outside my area of expertise. Therefore, I am having to learn new things quickly as the design schedules are tight. I am...

    Engineering-International.com

Thanks for all the replys. Has anyone used his concrete column and beam spreadsheets?

    Engineering-International.com

Has anyone purchased or used the spreadsheets from this website? It looks to have quite a few spreadsheets with code references with the calculations. The author is Daniel T. Li. Thanks for the input.

Seismic design for below grade tanks

According to the IBC 2006, there is an exception 4 which includes "hyrdraulic structures" Would this apply to buried tanks?

    2-Way Slab Systems

I am designing a two-way slab and want to use the direct design method outlined in ACI 318. The question I have has to do with the distribution of moments in the slab. I was thinking of just calculating the statical moment in each direction and basing my flexural steel design on that. This woulb...

    Deep Beam Design

Does anyone know of an alternate to using the Strut and Tie model for deep beams?

    Allowable Shear Stress

I am using an allowable shear stress of .85*2*sqrt(fc) to get allowable shear stress in psi. I noticed that factor changed in the new ACI to .75, but they do allow it in appendix c if you use there load factors. I assume it is ok to use .85 for now. Does anyone have any comments on this? T.

    2-Way Slab systems

I am designing some reinforced concrete beams which are supporting a slab which will have 2-way action. Is there a method for determing the load to each beam? One beam is perpendicular to the other. The slab dimensions are roughly 10'x 10'. Thanks T.

    Cost of living calculator

Does anyone know of a good cost of living calculator to analyze the cost of living in a particular city? Thanks, Todd

    Seismic Horizontal coefficient

Please see attached link from the USGS. This will give you the seismic parameters you are looking for. http://earthquake.usgs.gov/research/hazmaps/design/

    Trapziodal load dist

Does anyone know where the resultant load of a trapoziodal load dist acts from the support? This is a cantilver beam with the larger load at the support. Thanks

    Rectangular tank design and analysis

I am looking for a rectangular plate chart which has a trapazoidal load distribution. I design a lot of rect tanks and have cases which have seismic sloshing. Thanks T.

    ACI 350

The ACI 350 Code which deals with min shear reinforcement. It is section 11.5.5.1. This section gives requirements for using half of the allowable shear. Does this provision apply to below grade walls resisting soil loads as well as walls resisting liquid loads or is this just meant for beams...

    Value Engineering Session

I just had a value engineering session on one of my jobs and they came back with a few comments. See below: If anyone has some suggestions on how to respond, I would appreciate it. 1. Eliminate upturned keys in concrete starter walls. 2. Reduce wait time between adjacent concrete placements...

    Software

I assume you are talking about the Code Check command? Also, I have heard that some engineers do not trust STAAD to do the actual design.

    Software

I am looking for some software that will design steel members as well as reiforced concrete walls and slabs. A lot of member design is repetitive, so I am looking for a software package that can design the individual members once I run the analysis in STAAD Pro. Thanks

PCA Tables for circular and rect tank walls

No, these are the standard pca tables which supply coefficients to calculate moments, shears, ring tensions etc.

PCA Tables for circular and rect tank walls

I am trying to analyze a siesmic soil load on a tank wall. The load distribution will be an inverted triangle. The PCA tables cover only std triangular load dist with the highest load at the bottom of the wall. Does anyone know of a pub that has load coefficients for an inverted triangle...

    Stainless steel design

I am designing a compression member using Allowable Stress Design. The manual I am using is SEI/ASCE 8-02. How should I account for local web and flange buckling. Thanks for the help,
