Never ending ??? The right computer for the job?!?!

I talked the wonderful IT folks at my company into an IBM (Lenovo) 2687D5U laptop after a few years of griping about performance issues. Anyone see anything wrong with this unit before I put my neck on the line? It's a one gigger with the 128 MB ATI Mobility FireGL V3200 graphics card. Processor...

    Solidworks on a MAC (apple)

I understand the level of complexity is an issue. But I've seen 1000 part assemblies run faster than my single part, 100 feature files. I do a lot of weird surfacing and usually intense patterns to copy those surfaces. I make molds for these parts as well, which adds to the problem. Any...

    Solidworks on a MAC (apple)

Are there any less expensive options? I guess I should ask which options I should really focus on, since they could sway the price $1k. I've been in an endless argument with my IT dept. about graphics cards, speed, memory, etc. They always want to give me the minimum allowable to get by. Let's...

    Solidworks on a MAC (apple)

    Thanks. Why not the M20?

    Solidworks on a MAC (apple)

I am running SW on an IBM T40. My lease is up at the end of the year, and the bossman says I can't replace it. Not sure why. Anyway, I wouldn't mind having a Powerbook, but I'm not too sure I can run SW, even using Virtual PC. Anyone know of any success stories.

    PVC/UR Blend Film/Sheet

Can anyone identify a ~25 mil pvc/urethane blend material in a shore A grade? It must be RF weldable and be able to contain some form of fire resistance. I've found plenty of soft pvc's and good welding urethanes, but I need to find the balance of soft feel and elasticity with durability and...

    COSMOSWorks

Anybody familiar with it? I'm considering purchasing, but I want to know just how user friendly it really is. Also, how versatile is it? What won't it let me do? I understand assemblies may not work so well. Any feedback is great.

    radiotrunslucency

Can anyone tell me what it means to xray to <2.0 mm Aluminum? I have a material that I need to have tested that when under xray must not exceed this amount. I do know that the machine used to do it is an 80kV unit.

    exit tank pressure

    yes, sorry it was implied.

    exit tank pressure

At the 6" opening of the nozzle. It will be clamped into place. The whole system is built just to measure the pressure drop over time through a material. There are ASTM stds and test equipment, I'm taking a more applicable and economical approach.

    exit tank pressure

The last time I heard the words metastable equilibrium, I was hugging a toilet! I sure don't miss the days of recreating steam tables in my fluids/thermo class.

    plastic film permeability

thanks, can't believe I didn't find this one! I only found perm. of fabrics testing. It didn't come up on ASTM's site when I searched permeability. thanks for the matweb.com tip also. I'll try it out. Is there a test std for the cup method so I can research it? We had a helium test performed on...

    plastic film permeability

Does anyone know if there is a method to calculate permeability of plastic film (ex. beach ball material)? Also, are there any test rigs available for testing samples of different materials?

    exit tank pressure

Thanks for the help folks. sailoday28, I plan to pressure the tank to 10 psi and close it off. Temp is ~70F and the cone changes from .25" to 6" over 2.5". I was hoping to neglect friction for ease of calculation. After referring to my fluids book, maybe that's not the case. jstephen, I had...

Velocity of compressed air inside pipe

Thanks poetix99. First time user!! I posted the new thread seperately. The system is essentially being built to measure perm. rates of plastic films. I thought hitting a 6" diameter section of material with a known pressure would give me a distinction of which one would hold up best. To my...

    exit tank pressure

Using Bernoulli's Eq, I have attempted to calculate the exit air pressure and velocity of a system which consists of a tank (~5 gallon), 3" long 0.25" dia pipe, and an exit nozzle that is basically a cone shape (0.25" to 6" diameter). The tank will be pressurized to 10 psi. Why is my pressure at...
