Oh! Every time I think that I won't add any more to this thread you guys say something that sparks another thought or interest (we should all design something together)!
I just wanted to say yes and amen to what StarrRider said about a manager nixxing a design before letting you explain it or...
And, might I add, that some of those with degrees not only get defensive but are also arrogant!
Starrider, you sound very humble yet knowledgable. I think I would like working with you. I imagine we could accomplish a great deal.
Swertel, you obviously have keen insight. You must be good at...
Ah-ha! That gave me a thought sancat. It sometimes falls to a wise marketing group to make one's more costly apparatus profitable over (or in addition to) a equally good item more cheaply made than you can do yourself. Example: people will pay much more for an item with a Tommy Hilfiger...
Of course most people could "improve" on a design even (or especially) the original designer. I'm certainly not against "updating" a design to take advantage of new technology or even a design to improve a product. I'm just against right-out theft of an idea. It happens...
Wow! I agree with you both. Biggadike, I have seen what you are talking about time and time again. It's the copycats that we have to worry about. We come up with good designs and others copy it. They say (whoever 'they' are) that imitation is the best form of flattery. I disagree. I'm not...
Ha! Being extremely left-handed myself I'd have to vote for For Lefties! I have found in design work that I have been involved in the percentage of lefties has probably been 35-50%. Considering that there are far fewer left-handed people in the world (I think) that percentage actually is...
I have enjoyed working with women engineers although a few were difficult to work with because they had "something to prove" and were trying to make it in a male-dominated environment. Unfortunately, several men DID make it difficult for them by either implying they were inferior or...
linqur,
Facinating subject! I do not remember a time when I did NOT think in 3-D but I certainly have learned more over the years. The CAD and Solid-Modeling tools have been very helpful but have sometimes been a hinderance.
I work with a fellow who cannot visualize a simple part until it is...
