    Hold down bolt tensile loading

TomBarsh Thanks for your reply, I think I got it right but there seems to be a little misunderstanding, perhaps I have used the wrong terminology. When I say 'pitch' I mean the distance between the hold down bolts 'not' the actual tread pitch. Yes, there is one bolt per leg. Thanks again Adiem

    Hold down bolt tensile loading

I am looking at the design of hold down bolts on a four legged tank with a blast loading. I have calculated the overturning moment due to the blast loading and I need to calculate the uplift loading on the bolts. Do I divide the moment by half the pitch of the hold down bolts to calculate the...

ASME VIII Div. 1 Flat ends and Flanges

Can anybody point me at any web based sketches for flat ends and flanges to ASME VIII Div.1 (UG 34 & Appendix 2) I am after the types i.e. for flat ends; sketch j etc. T.I.A.

    Acceptable loading?

I am in the process of designing an industrial platform to provide access to a process vessel. The only loading the platform will take is from personnel. Could anybody help by letting me know an acceptable design loading for the platform based on the above? Is there a standard that quotes this...

    dimpled jackets

Thanks guys for your responses, they have given me some leaders. Any further info would be greatly appreciated.

    dimpled jackets

Thanks for your reply. I was always going to check the vessel wall for F.V. the question (although not very weel worded) was do I have to include the jacket internal pressure of 3 barg and check the vessel wall for 4 barg external over an effective length equal to the jacket length? Is there a...

Can anybody help with this? I am desparate for an answer!

    dimpled jackets

I read in a previous post that if a dimpled jacket is used for a vessel with an external pressure of 1 barg (F.V.), the pressure in the jacket does not have to be included in the vessel wall thickness calc, Is there a paper or reference that states this, somebody I know suggested 'Neale'.

    Pipe end loads

I have a drawing showing a pump and outlet pipework from the pump, the drawing also shows position of pipe supports. The pipwork exits the pump and immediately turns through 90 degrees and runs for 1500 mm and terminates at a flange, how would I calculate the loads and moments at the flange. I...

    Lifting beam design

Could somebody help me please! I have a sketch of a lifting beam and the associated loads for which some calcs are required, I have found the formula that I need to quantify the beam but am struggling to equate the moments and forces to use in the beam design. If I could email the sketch of the...

    Beam theory and bending moments

Can anybody help me, I am not an engineer by trade but I know a little about beam theory, however, I am looking at a liftinmg beam and have a displaced moment due to an offset by way of a bracket on the end of the beam. Can anybody point me at a site on the web that will show examples of...

    Stress formula

This is pretty fundamental to people in this forum but I am not an engineer by trade, I was wondering what the formula for double shear stress in a round pin is, any help would be gratefully received. I know that single shear stress is equal to Load/area, is it true to say that double shear...
