Asking for suggestions on large distortion model

My purpose is to model a process of dynamic vesicle spreading severely on a substrate. Initially, the vesicle is a hollow sphere (may be filled with liquid). It's made of thin membrane subjected to adhesive force from its substrate. (Please see the attachment, it's an illustration of cell...

Who can recommend me an FEA book on heat transfer?

I want it to be comprehensive, especially on couled thermal stress analysis, more details on both theory and formulations. Thanks a lot!

Spurious oscillation in heat transfer analysis

It is recounted in ABAQUS/Doc that for 2nd order element, time increment 'Delta t' should be Delta t > (Density*Specific heat)*(Delta L)^2/6k where k is the thermal conductivity. ^2 means power law of 2 Delta L stands for the typical element size. Also, it's stated that for 1st order...

Spurious oscillation in heat transfer analysis

corus, Did you mean you meet the same problem by finite difference method? I'm not sure if what I met is akin to the instability to FDM. However, my model is fully coupled thermal-stress analysis with contact and geometrically nonlinearity, the considerable spurious oscillation may be not...

Spurious oscillation in heat transfer analysis

Hi, Robert What I used is S4T in Abaqus which is fully coupled thermal-stress shell elements(with 4 nodes). "with time savings of simpler elements"? Would you please make me clearer? ABAQUS/Doc suggests me to user finer mesh, but my problem is, I think it already very fine. Because it's...

Problem with Boundary constraint In FEM

Your stent can never be "totally support free", Dude. Did you mean it's suspended in vacuum far from the earth? So you can either think of its loads or to simplify the boundary condition as a point constraint or sth. Describing your model in more detail might draw more helps to you.

Spurious oscillation in heat transfer analysis

I've met a problem with ABAQUS. In fully coupled thermal-stress analysis (or just simple heat transfer analysis), there's a phenomenon called "Spurious oscillation", which is stated in ABAQUS/Doc as below: Spurious oscillations due to small time increments In transient analysis with...

    Coupled diffusion-displacement problem

Thank you, corus Actually I'm just working on ABAQUS currently.

    Coupled diffusion-displacement problem

I'll have to solve a coupled diffusion-displacement, or to say, reaction-diffusion problem. I'm not sure which commercial FEA software can solve this kind of problem. In my model, mechanical deformation is influenced by mass diffusion and vice versa. Thanks!

Numbering of nodes in Finite element

Suppose I'm composing a simple FE program by myself. Like Daniel's comments. We have a FE model with only one quadrilateral element, which has four nodes 1,2,3,4 4--------3 | | | | 1--------2 if we numbering the nodes by 1 2 3 4, and let its true solution (say, temperature)...

Numbering of nodes in Finite element

As I knew from some finite element books, the numbering of the nodes of element can't be arbitrary. It should be counter-clockwise ( in 2-D case). Is it true? What will happen if I set the numbering as clockwise or any other? I just don't understand. Thanks! Tianle Cheng

asking for good review on biomechanics

Hi, all I've been working on finite element analysis on fiber composites before. I'm now a newcomer on biomechanics, whoever could recommend me a comprehensive or farsighted review on biomechanics? Thanks in advance!
