Great posts everyone!
IRstuff, you nailed it. In my experience (which honestly is not a lot) I've noticed that most managers coming from the commercial side seem to think that punching the numbers is enough to manage a project or division without understanding the complexities of the techical...
I saw a similar thread on another forum and it rang a bell, thought it would be interesting to discuss it here...
Most of the designers in my company's Engineering Department argue that PMs should spend several years in the technical department (in my industry being civil, electromechanical...
Well if you are outside the UK, Prince2 is pretty much useless. About APMP, I understand it deals more with tendering and acquisiton of new ventures, not the actual development of a project. How about becoming a PMP? If you want to become a Project Manager it is better recognized than any other...
Hi all,
This question may sound a bit silly but being my first project I had to ask.
The assembly stage of my project (A 390 MVAr Static VAr Compensator) is nearby and I need to know what may be considered as standard tools and equipment for this stage.
The equipment to be installed consists...
Well, speaking from experience, I am managing an Energy Compensation Project in Mexico City with colleagues in Germany (for Control and Protection, as well as PM and Procurement) and in Colombia (exclusively for Civil Engineering).
What I found to be the biggest problem so far is that my...
Hi everyone,
I have an issue with my regular transformer supplier. We need 4 single-phase power transformers (3+1, 400 / 16.7 kV, 60/80/100 MVA; 1F) for a Static VAr Compensator, the problem is that after the initial harmonic measurements, the harmonic content in the grid turned out to be 72A...
Hi ScottyUK,
Yeah, I'm talking about single phase circuits, I'm sorry my english is getting rustier by the day.
About triplen harmonics, thats what I was referring to, on single phase circuits the harmonic is unable to propagate to the rest of the system and as it turns out, I was thinking of...
Hi 86Ranger,
The 3rd harmonic usually cancels out on mono-phasic grids, but in three-phase grids the harmonic series is not zeroed at the common point, therefore it isn't cancelled.
Cheers!
Hi everyone,
I've just been assigned a new project regarding Reactive Power Dynamic Compensation, which is kinda new for my employer in my country, as it is for me. I am going to be formally taught about it later on but I really want to get acquainted with it before training and all I know as...
