    info/education on vibration dampening

micjk Seems everyone's helped with the the "dampening" issue, but you also asked about a career change. Unless you can transfer units from previous coursework, you're pretty much stuck with 4 yrs to get a normal BSME, or even more doing it night-school fashion. One option for you to...

Find velocity from accelerometer without initial velocity?

anands78 "I still dont get you. When we have not at all gathered a DC component(i.e, the time domain data is oscillating about a zero value; say the readings are from an accelerometer) then why would we have to remove it?" Yes, if neither your sensor nor amplifiers (if any) or...

Are Bay Muds (OL/OH) Class F Soils by UBC?

Hi. Just found this site/forum so this response is v. late, but might be useful to others. Measure the shear wave velocities using a P- S-wave velocity borehole tool, like the OYO P-S Suspension Logger. Those muds can be REALLY SLOW, like less than 30m/s (Vs).

Locating Deep (50'+) Cast Iron Pipe?

Have you considered geophysics? We located an 8ft pipe 45ft below the surface using high-resolution shear-wave reflection. The data looked like radar, and easily had enough resolution for a 3ft pipe. Technique requires a shear-wave micro-vibrator. Like all geophysics, the quality will depend on...
