    Pump Seizing

If the duty point is close to shutoff ( a thumb rule is is that the same should be more than 15% of best efficiency point), the radial forces on the shaft increase. In case of cantilever type impeller pumps this can lead to excessive deflection which in turn can lead to many issues including...

Super Heater Failure in Bio Mass Boilers

I thank everyone who had responded to my query; could not respond earlier due to another breakdown with the boiler. the metallurgical lab reports indicate that the failure is due to erosion on the outside; the manufacturer is trying out few tubes with SS310 material; during the recent shut...

Super Heater Failure in Bio Mass Boilers

I have noticed frequent failures of secondary super heater tubes (Material of Construction T22) in the body section in biomass fueled power boilers. Thinning due to erosion and corrosion on the flue gas side is the main reason for failures on these small capacity boilers, with capacities...

    Pump surging

You can check the performance curves of the pumps. If one pump has a 'droop' this problem can occur during changeover if most of the system resistance is fixed.

    Diagnose This

Following points come to my mind: a. Gas porosities in the bottom impeller would have given way with some amount of recirlulation resulting in the damage observed;Outer peripehry is most likely area for this. b. Possibly better material selection has resulted in lesser damage in the bottom...

Why is my mechanical seal continuously failing?

Face combination seems to be okay; what type of seal you are using ? What about the drive elements, the loading mechanism and the secondary seals ? What is the type of failure

    stainless valve balls

In my previous organisation which used to make ball valves too, we used to buy balls from Indian and Taiwanese manufacturers- both investment cast balls and balls from bars. Please let me know you email address and I shall trace their addresses and send you. c_ponnu@yahoo.com

    Pump

Can you describe how the axial thrust is transferred to the bearings and how the bearing reactions to the ground/large mass; change in the thrust could be due to machining inaccuracies, as 4 pumps with similar duty seems to be working hydraulically and mechanically well. If you can refer to the...

    Valve Stem Friction

I have found values between 0.45 to 0.55 provide reasonably good results. 0.8 and above did not tally with observed values. However if you would like to experiment and if you have facilities you can measure the frictional force using some simple set up and use the values Best of luck. C Ponnu
