I have been told that when you have many layers of coordinate systems there can be errors due to the transformation when solving, i.e.:
A -> B -> C -> D -> Global
instead of:
A & B & C & D -> Global
Therefore it is a bad practice to have many nested CSys.
Is there any truth to it? How...
I'm an aerospace stress engineer in my early career and I wonder how much in common (or difference), in terms of analysis, is there between aerospace structures and civil structures?
The principal materials would be an obvious one (Al, Ti, CFRP vs steel, concrete, timber etc).
Any advice please?
I'm trying to model a bend of rectangular hollow-section tube. Typically, I have used Cbars to model and output the elforce and then apply various factors (stress concentration due to bend; extra shear from torsion etc.) to calculate the "applied stress" on the tube.
As a simple test case, I...
Please give any comments or suggestions...
A metallic assembly with bolted joints, is mounted on a composite structure. It has been designed and analysed, with the FEM including the composite structure; the critical stresses have been derived. Now, a sine-sweep will be performed with shaker...
I am comparing vibration tests with FE results (Femap + Nastran) and would like to know which software (preferrably free) does the following:
* Overlay plot of test and FE FRF (should be easy)
* Manipulation of data, e.g. multiply, divide...
* Presents the test damping
* Modal correlation/MAC
