    ASME B16.9 wall thickness tolerance

The required thickness for buttweld fitting is enough so if the fitting is welded to seamless pipe the pipe would always burst first. An XS reducer should have weld prep for XS pipe on each and thicker wall in the middle. The small end may be even thicker since the reducer is formed but...

Removal of large rupture disc holders

Update, the plant owner is going to; Use a crane. Add lifting lugs to the discharge tubes. Custom design to allow stops to be fitted without reaching up Add threaded tapings to the holders for eye bolts

Flexibility and Seismic analysis - Piping system

Autopipe has Spectrums for IBC 2006, Euro EC8, EC8 IS 1893-2002. All directions covered. but you need to know what you are doing to run spectrum analysis.

    SLIP RING RJ 36" CL900 ASTM A240 GR.304/304L

You can look out all the dimension to match the flanges in the flange code excepted for the thickness. The client's piping designer should be able the sate the thickness as they know the line design pressure and what the slip ring is used for.

Flexibility and Seismic analysis - Piping system

Defiantly one stress model for design/operating and occasional loads. Often an external expert is used to define the seismic actions for a project, but they do need to understand piping design so they can advise the appropriate seismic design factors. B31E is worth a read.

Removal of large rupture disc holders

How to others handle large rupture disc holders when discs need to be changed? We are looking DN350 holders which weight ~ 60Kg and need to be removed from under the discharge tubes to change the discs. We have a way to jack up the discharge tubes but not sure how to slide out the holders...

    B31E allowable stresses

My guess, 60Ksi is to limit stress in high strength metals and avoid brille failure. as above, important to note ap/Rp factor is different for B31.x and B31E.

Why need breathing hole on reinforce nozzle pad, do we have to block it after completion?

    Ordering socket weld flanges

I agree ID of the SW step does not effect the strength of the flange or the piping. Just adds an internal bump when the pipe ID is less than the SW step ID. May also cause a mismatch of gasket IDs to flange face if the project has a mixture of SW and WN flanges. B16.5 does require the...

    Embedded item in to slab

Hi Can I please have recommendations for additional reinforcing to transfer moments and forces on a steel pipe imbedded item into a slab. The embedded item is the only loading point on the foundation so there a lot of load to transfer into the slab. We can add holes for bars through the...

    Ordering socket weld flanges

racookpe1978 Flange and pipe wall thickness are only loosely related. Pipe wall needs to consider corrosion allowance, flange class does not. eg. As above the default ID for small WN and SW class 150 flanges is STD pipe, but when corrosion allowance is considered the pipe could be thicker. WN...

    Ordering socket weld flanges

After I bit more digging, Per B16.5 the default ID of small SW (& WN) flanges is class 150 - STD weight class 300 - STD weight class 600 - must be specified by the purchaser So I would say order SW flanges with the pipe SCH stated.

    Ordering socket weld flanges

What is more common when ordering socket weld flanges to get the correct ID of the socket step? 1. state the pipe sch e.g XS or SCH80 2. state the # rating e.g 3000# (to match XS pipe)

Thermal stress at circumferential weld, acceptance criteria

@davefitz A bit OT, but when you weld 1.5" P91 to 2.25Cr stop valves you must transition in the material with the higher allowable stress. If you transition the lower strength material it will be too thin at the joint.
