What do you think of these phase angle readings?

How are your substations (A and B) configured w.r.t. the bank location, open breakers, etc? Cap bank is at substation B and now that I've talked with our control center they have had this bank in for the last week or so if that answers your questions about breaker status. There is an auto...

What do you think of these phase angle readings?

"Which protection functions of the SEL-311C are enabled or disabled?" This relay (SEL-311C at substaion A) is used for DTF (distance to fault) on a electromechanical relay plane only. "My money is still on some delta/wye setting or display discrepancy." If this is the case how can I explain...

What do you think of these phase angle readings?

How big is the capacitor bank? I know they just installed a new fuseless one at substation B. Think it's 15.6M mvar. You think thats why?

What do you think of these phase angle readings?

Could you list the model numbers of the relays involved? The SEL-311C I only number I have is the FID=SEL-311C-R110-V0-Z005004-D-20060320 The readings on all the other equipment are the raw readings in the relay test switches. Yes this is a 40Kv L-N 69Kv L-L

What do you think of these phase angle readings?

How are the PTs and CTs connected? (Delta, Wye, etc.) Are there any relay settings that would compensate for wiring/phasing differences? How are they set? PTs and CTs are Wye. As far as the settings not sure what you mean by that, please explain

What do you think of these phase angle readings?

Part of our relay maintenance procedure we have to prove that the current and voltage inputs to the relay are correct. When we triggered the event (screen shot provided) on the SEL-311C (substation A) we saw that the phase angles didn’t quite make sense (IB was almost in phase with VA). When...

    Tres Amigas Super-Substation

Is the Tres Amigas Super-Substation dead? I have not heard anything about it. Last I remember ERCOT said no way!! Anyone have a update?

Transformers and Lockout Relay 86, can you say you don't need it?

With out looking at our standard prints I think the only one that is definitely not resettable via SCADA is the breaker failure 86. I guess my company's thinking is buss biff could have been lighting or something on the buss that is now clear. We use 86s on the buss dif as a contact...

    Buchholz / Sudden Pressure Relay

We trip a 86LOR. That way when and if you take the digital relay (SEL-587) out of service you still have sudden pressure protection. We use a QUALITROL 909 Seal-in relay so it more secure tripping (one contact has to open and the other has to close to close the trip contact on the 909). Also...

Transformers and Lockout Relay 86, can you say you don't need it?

    >>>>pwrtran<<<<< The utility that I work at we install 86LORs that are SCADA resetable. Mostly on Buss Diff and not on breaker failure.

Trying to Choose a Relay Test Set

We use a Doble F-6150 think they are about $60,000. I have heard good things about Manta thou. Also we use to have a MPRT it's ok I guess. You also need to think about what software you are going to use. The software that you choose can make or break the usefulness of your test set becuase...

    Line Transfer Trip Criteria

Regardless of Kv we use DTT on any line that has beaker-and-half. The DTT is initiated by one of the two breaker failure LORs in a Breaker-and-half. Think of DTT as an extension of BF. The way we transmit DTT is using a wave trap with a duel line tuner (because we also have DCB) or fiber. If...

A better understanding of psia vs. psig

Well I know of some people that tell me this is all WRONG. Would like some more info to help those along. Please if you can think of more examples, it would be greatly appreciated. Thanks Wes

A better understanding of psia vs. psig

So in other terms a psig gauge shows the difference of the ambient air pressure and what ever the pressure port pressure is.

    Protective Relay Test Set/Equipment

At work we have doble F6150 with enoserv rts software. Love it!!

    Current Transformer Question

Take an outage on the CB and shoot current to prove your current path.

A better understanding of psia vs. psig

Fill a scuba tank up to 10psig (sea level, outside on a boat) and put that scuba tank into a decompression chamber and pressureize the decompression chamber to 24.7psia. If you were living inside the decompression chamber with the scuba tank that was filled with 10psig, and you put a pressure...
