IRstuff, Your post clearly explains what is missing in my analysis. Thank you for the teaching.

Using 12 volt lead acid batteries in parallel

Thank you. I didn't think about shorting. I don't know if deep cycles or not. According to a youtube, current draw is just over 1 amp. If verified (actual measurement), I will just replace battery + trickle charger with a DC power supply.

Using 12 volt lead acid batteries in parallel

A battery failed to provide enough power to drive a motor (gate to be exact) on successive operation (open and close in repetition). I replaced it with a new one. The old battery shows full charge voltage. As far as I see, the old battery is just reduced in capacity and can be connected to the...

Gas stabilizer for small engines - snake oil?

Thank you. I have a related question. Does the stabilizer also prevent ethanol containing fuel from ethanol related problems in small 2 cycle engines? Or has nothing to do with it?

Gas stabilizer for small engines - snake oil?

I have a gas pressure washer and a gas string trimmer. Some recommend gas stabilizer (Sta-Bil for example) and some say it is a snake oil. Would petroleum engineers educate me, please? Thank you.

    Danger of no sway bar

Is there a high risk associated removing the sway bar (torsion bar)? Sharp cornering may become problematic but to the point of risking life? I have been a member of an online Ford pickup forum. Someone posted how ride became better without the sway bar. I just wonder if this is a high risk...

    Home driveway question

I need an expert's advice on my home driveway situation. My sewer drain pipe runs under the concrete driveway. After failing to remove the blockage in the sewer pipe, he is going to cut a hole in the driveway and do the necessary repair. He recommends a new driveway afterward. This is why. My...

    Add reverse to old drill

The brushes are positioned 180 degrees apart between them. Contact with the shiny brass piece is 90 degrees. So I am good to go with the mod. Thank you.

    Add reverse to old drill

Thank you for confirming it's not going to work. What about this? Field Coil 1 ---- Field coil 2 ---- Brush 1 ---- Rotor ---- Brush 2 Field coil 1 ---- Field coil 2 ---- Brush 2 ---- Rotor ---- Brush 1 Will these two give opposite rotation?

    Add reverse to old drill

I have an old corded drill, one speed no reverse. It is a low rpm (500) drill that comes handy occasionally. I wish it had a reverse switch. Internet search seems to point at reversing brush wires. Is it really this simple? Thank you. EDIT: The wires to the brushes are too short to tap. There...

    Watering clay foundation in summer

Thank you for confirming house perimeter watering is not a myth. I will contact the city as advised. By the way, I have no big trees in my lot. Neither my next door neighbors. Montmorilonite is a bad clay?

    Hydrazine compatibility

Assuming OP is not associated with NASA, he can email his question to a NASA education outreach office. I bet they will forward your question to an expert. Just describe your need because you will have to convince the education office your question is legit. Both silver plating and TiN coating...

    Watering clay foundation in summer

I just moved to Dallas. My realtor said watering the house perimeter is necessary. According to him (and internet search) the clay soil in Dallas (north Texas) dries out in the summer (no rain, high heat) and contacts, putting a stress to the concrete slab foundation. Is this an urban myth?

    Drill and tap aluminum casting

If I drill and tap an aluminum casting (gearbox) from outside, some chips will inevitably enter the gearbox. How detrimental would they be to the gears (hardened steel)? Background: An automotive gearbox has a fill plug near the top but no drain hole at the bottom. The gear oil is supposed to be...

    Tow dolly question

Thank you for the explanation. Looking back, I should have done the same, disengage steering wheel lock and wrap steering wheel with seat belt. Instead I followed U-Haul's instruction, engage steering wheel lock. Result was broken steering wheel lock.
