    Inwardly flanged vs outwardly flanged

konrad, doct9960's explanation is more logical. The ASme code was developed by North Americans. If you look into the meaning of 'inwardly' and 'outwardly' in an American/English dictionary and combine those meaning to the word 'flanged' (e.g. inwardly flanged), you will make sense in what the...

    Inwardly flanged vs outwardly flanged

konrad, some questions on your thingamajig (sketch #2): 1. what's the material? 2. what are the dimensions and thickness? 3. what are the design conditions (DP, DT, etc)? 4. how do you intend to fabricate it? 5. what is ONE/TUV/BV or OneBeacon's say on this? (assuming they are your AI)

    MMBL question

kander, YOU are the ONLY ONE confused. Why are you making a big fuss on semantics? If you have doubts on terms containing "billion", ask the source of that information. You will probably sound stupid to them, but at least you will have the satisfaction of knowing that the billion means...

    Dollar Plate

doct9960, Sorry I did not really answer your question. My answer is NO. I do not recommend a locally thick insert plate for heavy wall vessels(greater than 2" thick) or for nozzles in high-temperature hydrogen service.

    Dollar Plate

Shofa, You seem to imply that some of our experienced colleagues above are the authoritative body in vessel design & construction. [wink] Would you be kind enough to tell me the specific paragraph in ASME VIII (Div. 1 or Div. 2) where it is mandatory use insert plates or self-reinforcing...

    WRC 107 - nozzle loads

asv80, "The reason given for not including seismic load was horizontal installation. Is that correct?" I don't quite get what you are saying in your above statement. For sure there are horizontal seismic forces and horizontal thermal forces. And how about wind loads? Even if seismic is the...

    Grand Canyon skywalk completed

Looking at some actual photos of the skywalk, it seems there are railings at the back of the structure. Is the skywalk retractable? For maintenance purposes maybe? http://news.yahoo.com/photos/ss/events//us/030807grandcanyon;_ylt=Ah22___iCAfwFQVUdtPccMTq188F

    WRC 107 - nozzle loads

asv80, Are you sure you got "allowable" loads and not "actual" loads from your customer? Many companies provide a tabulation (sometimes formula) of allowable loads for different nozzle sizes. This table of allowable loads are not usually categorized in separate weight, thermal, seismic or wind...

    Manufacturer's Design Report / WPS-PQR's

The PE, who would be certifying the Manufacturer's Design Report for compliance, is responsible for reviewing WPS/PQR's. The PE must make sure that the WPS/PQR's are qualified with Section IX and that they are in compliance with the requirements of Division 2. Although WPS/PQR's are not...

What is the difference between MC-30 and MC-70?

Check your jurisdiction (i.e. Dept. of Transportation). Some jurisdictions allow either MC-30 or MC-70 for prime coats. Here's a guideline from CFLHD... http://www.cflhd.gov/techDevelopment/completed_projects/pavement/prime-tack/_documents/prime-tack-coats-entire-doc.pdf
