    old cold form steel joists

Looking for some insite on old cold formed steel joists. I was walking through and old church addition and came across what appeared to be light gauge steel joists with a solid arched bar fastened to the web of the joists. Any ideas on what type of construction or age these are. I plan on...

    old wire mesh designation

Thanks. Just what I was looking for. Saved me some time searching.

    old wire mesh designation

Anyone have a publication that has old wire mesh designations showing size and spacing of bars. I'm reviewing a slab that has ASW 208 mesh as reinforcement. I assumed the ASW means American Steel & Wire. Thanks

    grade beams for caissons

A minimum would be a concrete cap to allow for proper elevation and redoweling/embedments. Another consideration is frost. Colder climates we typically have a grade beam to below the frost line if an interior slab is poured next to the wall.

    top down construction

You are talking about the same thing, just different lingo. In keeping with the same discussion, has anyone constructed a basement using steel sheet piles and left them exposed as the basement walls. What are the fireproofing implications if any thay you may have run across. From a...

Transferring shear from column base to slab

I would take a similar approach to shepherd and swearingen. I think you would need some type of shear lug or key and transfer load directly to the footing in bearing. I would tie the two footings of the braced frame with a concrete grade beam. Provide dowels in the grade beam to transfer load...

    top down construction

Anyone know of any good references or rather any reference on top down construction? I've found a few articles and have some different ideas about how to go about it, but want to know if there were any other references. Thanks

    existing footing

Have you considered chemical grouting? It may/may not be a possiblity depending on soil conditions. We used it on an existing project and it appears to be performing fairly well. We are monitoring the footings as be building on top.

Make an Existing non-composite beam act composite?

we have not cored from the top before although that is a possiblity. We have added plates to the top flange and expansion bolted or epoxied threaded rods to the underside of the slab to produce partial composite action. We did this because we were adding additional beams and we had access to...

    old metal floor deck tables

Thanks mrengineer! Robertson's website had old deck tables available. The manf. tip was very useful. Thanks again.

    old metal floor deck tables

Doing some structural review of an existing steel building with castellated steel beam and concrete on metal deck. I found that the steel beams are adequate for the new loading condition, however I am unable to find any information on the metal deck and suspect that it will not work for the new...
