I have an old vessel that needs to be recertifed to PD5500. The original material of construction is BS 1501-151 Gr28A. I cannot find any references to this material on the net. Is the current equivalent BS 1501-151 Gr 430A??

The SAIMechE are in the throws of preparing some courses on basic PV design. But these won't be available until next year.

Appendix 9-5(c)(5) gives the formula for j for types 2 - 5 jacketed vessels as "Maximum allowable width of jacket space".
When I apply this formula I get a very small value for j. Is this really the maximum allowed?
I would appreciate some help from those with experience on App. 9

Can anyone tell me where to fin the Kelvin (Bessel) functions bei(x) and bei(x) and their derivatives?? I can only find BesselY(x,n) and BesselJ(x,n).

I have been doing calculations on tubesheets using UHX-13. I am using a excel spreadsheet and am looking for excel formulae for the Bessel functions (actually Kelvin functions) [b]ber(x)[b] and [b]bei(x)[b]and their derivatives. Can anyone help - I can only find the BesselY(x,n) and BesselJ(x,n)...
Goodday all;
I have a spherical presure vessel, about 8m in diameter, 5 bar design presure, 75 deg C design temperature, manufactured in 1980 to the Swedih Pressure Vessel Code, and the Swedish Cold Stretch Code. This code was basically used prior to the advent of duplex materials, by using...

jt - thank you for this valuable information.
The lack of fusion is approximately 1,6mm on a 12,7mm wall thickness, but it is continuous along the whole seam. I will do min thickness calcs and use the FFS method to try buy some time as you suggested.
i would appriciate if you could send me...
I have a 30 year old vessel that was recently modified (one section was cut out and replaced)- it has operated without problems up to now. Once cut it was discovered that the longitudinal seam had lack of penetration due to the weld preperation (double vee with central 'shoulder'). It was in the...
