Designing to higher material properties then published by ASME

    Thanks TGS4. That's helpful information.

Designing to higher material properties then published by ASME

Thanks for all of your input. Certainly some food for thought...

Designing to higher material properties then published by ASME

I'm considering a safety factor of 3 or so. The plate is annealed after rolling (as described in the MTR). Would this remove any preferential hardening direction? As for failure modes, this is a square open top tank, so most of the stress is due to bending of the plate walls and...

Designing to higher material properties then published by ASME

Thanks for the information. I would like to design to a higher yield strength than that specified by ASME section II, Part D, table Y. All of the MTR's for this material that I have ever seen are above 45 KSI (SA-240-316L and 304L, 1/4" and under). I will be using plate and HSS (formed from...

Designing to higher material properties then published by ASME

Hello. I am wondering if it is acceptable practice to specify a minimum material yield strength in fabrication drawings? In particular, I am designing an open top tank (non pressure vessel) out of SA-240-316L and 304L plate and HSS materials. ASME section II specifies a yield strength of 25...

    Material for Metal Spring

You may want to try a precipitation hardened stainless like 17-7 PH. It will harden up to RC 49 and because it uses a low temp heat treatment, it doesn't warp when treated. Not sure if you can get the thickness you need however See here...

Is ASTM A193 and A194 fully killed

Hello. I need to ensure that both ASTM SA-193 Gr B7 and SA-194 Gr 2H materials are both fully killed. I'm unable to find reference to this in ASME section II. Is there anywhere else I should be looking? Thanks

    Material properties at elevated temperatures

Hello. I'm trying to certify ASTM materials for the European market. As part of that process, I need to determine maximum allowable stress for use in design calculations (as per requirements of the EU Pressure Directive 97/23/EC). I need this for ASTM A182 Gr F316L, ASTM A240 T316L and ASTM...

    API pipe specifications

Hello all... Can anyone suggest a good online resource for information regarding API piping (ie. X52, X65, etc). In particular, I'm looking for pipe dimensions, available grades, manufacturing process (seamed, seamless, etc), material properties and MAOP. Thanks in advance
