Is there a table or a standard empirical chart that has information of horizontal modulus Es for different soils? I do understand that Es is based on p and y, but is there a table that simplifies this issue if load values are not known?
Any help is appreciated.
Is using a hand probe a good method to determine foundation bearing capacity? For MSE wall foundation, what would you recommend to be used to check/calculate bearing capacity?
I have done the testing on Cement Treated Aggregate in the field. Basically, the direct transmission method is the accurate result than Back Scatter as BS read only the radiation bounced of the top 2", while DT calculates through the depth of penetration of the rod.
Second, test the mateial...
Can a soil be classified Silty lean Clay(CL) by visual observation in the field. One of my friend argues that this must be only lab determined and not in the field. Is this acceptable by ASTM standard? or should this be classified as Silt and Clay.
Riggly,
If axial load is negligible, how about torsion? How do we enter this in the L pile program? Can this be neglected too as piles can only designed for Lateral and Moment?
I do see the 45 kip-ft (significant) number for your design.
Thanks for the reply. This is to determine structural capacity and not lateral capacity. The axial load affects the Nominal Moment capacity of the pile. Any suggestions?
