Journal bearing wiped, l/h liner found loose!! Problem??

diamondjim: I'm not sure but having the machine running at very low speed there is the posibility that the hydrodynamic film doesn't generate enough pressure to support the load, and solid contact takes place between the surfaces (shaft and liner) Ayden[thumbsup2]

Journal bearing wiped, l/h liner found loose!! Problem??

Yes, we checked everything with the liner and bearing shells out of the turbine pedestal. We took bottom and top half to the shop. What we didn't check was installing the bearing shell back in the pedestal and installing the last cover, the top cover at the turbine it self.

Journal bearing wiped, l/h liner found loose!! Problem??

disregards previous message I posted it by mistake. I have the update of this problem. * We focused on the start up (JJPellin) and didn't warm up for long period of time.[bigcheeks] * Because of the low speed failure we started looking at clearance possibilities. * After having checked all...

Journal bearing wiped, l/h liner found loose!! Problem??

Again, thank you for the responses. I have the update of this problem. * We focused on the start up (JJPellin) and didn't warm up for long period of time.[bigcheeks] * Because of the low speed failure we started looking at clearance possibilities. * After having checked all clearanced from the...

Journal bearing wiped, l/h liner found loose!! Problem??

When using plastigage you install shims at the split of the area you want to check. Install the plastigage on top to get the max and also some at a 45 degree angle since your checking a radius. * First check thickness of plastigage! By inserting for example 0.005" of shim at the split and...

Journal bearing wiped, l/h liner found loose!! Problem??

diamondjim: Everything else stayed the same. Because we had problems in the past with misalignment at turbine rotors we are now modifying to axial bearing designs. TPL: Thank you for your responses. The looseness of the liner was not present at installation. Dry shaft maybe one problem we are...

Journal bearing wiped, l/h liner found loose!! Problem??

Let me try to explain the complete view of our sistuation. We have a completely new Turbine rotor with integral thrust collar. We have axial groove bearing at the #1 brg. We modifite the active thrust brg to a tilting pad design. Everything else on the machine stayed the same. The only two...

Journal bearing wiped, l/h liner found loose!! Problem??

Thanks for the responses but having a loose liner in it's casing wouldn't built the necessary pressure to get that oil film underneath the rotor. The bearing is a pressurized bearing, it has a leading and trailing edge on which the rotor will rotate. Having that loose liner won't build the right...

Journal bearing wiped, l/h liner found loose!! Problem??

We just wiped a journal bearing at our Turbo-Generator. We bumped the rotor to verify speed indication on the panel but the machine stopped rapidly. We decided to slow roll the machine to 500 RPM and monitor for noises, rubs etc... after 3 min. into slow roll at 500 RPM the Bearing RTD went of...

What is the material for Turbine coupling bolts?

Unclsyd would you know what the clearances should be on a solid coupling? How many thousands? We made every provision with broken shaft (sent to metallurgical lab)

What is the material for Turbine coupling bolts?

The turbine rotor broke just under the thrust collar and travelled towards the generator. The turbine is a 11 MW machine. It is also a Solid coupled arrangement meaning no coupling between "hubs". The vibration levels on the BN panel were jumping out of proportion before tripping the machine...

What is the material for Turbine coupling bolts?

Last December our Refinery had a major failure on one of our turbine-generators. We want to make new coupling bolts and would like to know what material is best to use for coupling bolts. (material chemical composition) Turbine and generator are solid coupled. Can any one assist me on this...

Reverse flow at multi stage pumps

What can happen to a multi stage pump when turning it out and check valve doesn't work? Will this destroy the pump, seize damaged? thanks for any help....

    Overpressurize the M-Seal!!

How is it possible to overpressurized a Mechanical Seal? When Starting a pump? Turning one out? By starting the third one? If I have the suction valve open, fluid should flow to lower pressure area right? Any help would be appreciated... Thanks

    Swinging of Amp meter??

We have here in the refinery two pumps working parralel. On the one pump the amp meter is swinging between 50-70A and at the other ampmeter is steady at 100A. The pump that is swinging is making a funny sound like going up and then down. What is the best practice to stop this? I'm thinking of...

WHAT CAN CAUSE SURGING AT A COMPRESSOR

My question is: What is surging at a gas recycle compressor and what can cause this to happen? Any help would be appreciated.

Can BUMP starting a Centrifugal pump cause wear ring melting together?

Pumpdesigner thanks for your commend. It is very strange though because the pump was on "Hot standby" when a warmup line cracked and spilled. The service is Vacuum tower Bottom. So we fixed the warmup line but had concerns if product had crystalized(freeze-up). So then we checked...

Can BUMP starting a Centrifugal pump cause wear ring melting together?

NO NO NO, The pump never was started as per operator. Offcourse if pump was started with discharge piping plugged they would have melted together without any doubt. BUT PUMP WAS BUMP STARTED AS PER OPERATOR.... Bump start is as I could understand pushing starting button for couple os seconds and...

Can BUMP starting a Centrifugal pump cause wear ring melting together?

I have one question about starting or BUMP starting a pump. We are discussing WHY THE IMPELLER AND CASING WEAR RING MELTED TOGETHER. OfFcourse we couldn't find out from operators. Before starting this VTB pump we checked if pump was rotating FREELY. Yes it was turning but a little bit stiff...
