    Concrete testing interval

What is a reasonable interval (test/CY) to test concrete(4 cylinders for compressive strength, air, and slump)? Is this dependent on the size of the pour? Let me know what your experiences are?

    Scour depth

Is there anyone who understands scour depth and how I might find out some specific information related to it, how to compute, determine, etc.(Specifically related to scour below spillways)

    Tall reinforced concrete retaining wall.

I appreciate all of your advise and consideration. I think that answer is just go with concrete. I just wanted to see if there was anything else out there. Thanks both for all of your help.

    Tall reinforced concrete retaining wall.

I definitely want the walls to be strong and will not sacrifice durability and strength for cost savings. The main reason for considering this is that the walls do not need to be 6 feet wide at the base structurally. This is only based on the 1:10 taper for compaction against the walls. I...

Slab Design for Concrete apron between walls

I am designing a reinforced concrete spillway structure that will be configured with 4 50-foot wide bays. Each bay will be separated by a wall, which will act as a retaining wall if one of the bays actually overtops and starts to spill. What is the best way to consider design of thickness...

    Tall reinforced concrete retaining wall.

I have a situation where we are designing retaining walls that are 25-30 feet high that are being used as dividers for a 4 bay fuseplug spillway on a dam. The walls act as retaining walls in the scenario that if one of the bays actually fails (in a large spill event) leaving one side to retain...

Two-Way Slab using ADOSS program - lateral seismic load

I am using ADOSS to analyze a two-way slab system. The program allows the input of a lateral load (They refer to it as a wind load). I want to input the lateral load as a seismic load to account for it in the loading scenarios. All the other inputs in the program for loads are in lb/ft^2 but...

    Type V Cement with Xypex

I am looking for help with a concrete mix we are proposing. We are adding Xypex (a crystalline waterproofing admix) to a Type V cement concrete mix for a water storage tank. The purpose for the Type V is that the soils in the area are high in sulfates. I am hearing the the combination of...

Removing shoring from a reinforced concrete slab

When is it generally appropriate to remove shoring from reinforced concrete construction. The case I am specifically asking about is a one-way slab supported by reinforced concrete walls. The 7 day breaks have returned at a little over 3,200 psi of 4,000 psi specified at 28 days. Is there a...

    Reinforced concrete deep walls help

Thank you all, this has been helpful to just check where I was at.

    Reinforced concrete deep walls help

Sorry, just not familiar with the acronym. I am performing the computations by hand using PCA's resource "Rectangular Concrete Tanks" to analyze the structure, which gives factors based on finite element analysis for these types of structures.

    Reinforced concrete deep walls help

Thanks FOCHT3 for the reply. GW is not an issue here based on drilling and testing. The top of the vault is restrained at the top with a slab at the surface. (Sorry not included previously. This vault is only being analyzed empty because it is only a vault to house valving for an adjacent...

    Reinforced concrete deep walls help

phiVc for 28" wall is 37,504 lb. Vu is 37,074 lb based on coeff. and analysis from "Reinforced Concrete tanks" using fixed base conditions. Hinged base is less but shear at edge controls under hinged base.

    Reinforced concrete deep walls help

I appreciate your comment. I understand that with retaining walls it would not be unusual and I just want to make sure that I am not missing something since this is a rigid box as opposed to just a retaining wall.

    Reinforced concrete deep walls help

I have been trying to find some information out about a deep reinforced concrete rectangular vault I am designing. The dimensions are 26' x 30' x 29' deep. Using "Rectangular Concrete Tanks" I am getting a wall thickness between 22" and 28" based on shear. Does this seem reasonable? It...
