"Saxon" - Unfortunately I'm the second in command of the mechanical workshops and have no say in how the polyethylene plants should be run,i.e. cleaning regime! Of course I've suggested to the engineering team that they should do something about the oil/dirt, but it's like talking to a...
Just to clarify - we do not let flammable material build up.
The requirement for Ex-proof is so that if for some terible reason a pipe with Ethylene is leaking, that an explosion will not occur due to the forklifts producing a spark.
Prevention not cure is what we´re looking for...like I said...
Hi all,
the company is an international company (producing chemicals/polyethylene), and the site is based in Germany. German Regulations require any company working in Germany to comply to the most stringent of safety standards of any country in the Western world. I have worked in the US...
IFRs - the problem with snow chains and ice studs ist that they are made of steel and have the potential to create sparks!
But thanks for the tip anyways :)

Hi all,
very interesting problem here: We have forklifts on our site that have to Explosion Proof, I.e Earthed so that no spark occurs, which could potentially cause an explosion.
The forklifts are constantly driving over oil patches and after about 3-4 months, so much oil is soaked up by the...
Hi all,
thanks again. Still not confirmed the cause for the bearing failure!
When the motor was put back we used "Optalign"(lasers alignment equipment) to align the couplings, without any difficulties!
I appreciate the point about the tensile strenght of cast iron, but there are no...
Hi all,
thanks for the replies.
Just to make it clearer: The feet are made of Cast Iron, and we are worried that the structural integrity of the motor might be damaged du to the grinding. When I say grinding I mean that material was machined fromthe feet, exactly like "Pablo02" said...
Hello,
this question is in relation to grinding material from the feet of a Thyseen Type 6X13SVC-L Pump.
We recently ground 6mm from the 50mm thick feet of the motor for our pump. However, we wer later told that this would make the motor unstable etc and this was not good practice. Can anyone...
I am looking to purchase a 50 Ton truck-mounted crane with a maximum price of approx. €500K ($640K/350GBP).
My question is this: What are the basic things to look out for when purchasing such a crane, and which company would you recommend?
Thanks for your help in advance,
Alan

cyrius,
to work out the time it will take the pig to travel through the line, simply find the flowrate through the line multiply by 3600 and divide by 1000 to get the answer in km/hr and then you can work out how many hours it will take fo your pig to go 15km's (as long as you work out your...
If you have any information on Intelligent Pigging for Cross-Country Pipelines please let me know, or if you know a website that I could access information on this topic.
I have been seconded to a Intelligent Pigging project dealing with cross-country pipelines in Scotland. One of them is a...
