The PTI Manual recommends a design load of 0.6 times the specified minimum tensile strength of the steel bar. Has anyone ever designed TEMPORARY anchors using a higher factor, and if so, what was your basis for the higher factor?
Two identical pipe piles are driven close-ended at a site to the same driving criteria using the same pile driving hammer. Based on a review of test borings at the site, one pile is founded on bedrock whereas the other pile is founded on a dense sand layer located significantly above the...
A drilled shaft is installed with a rock socket. An Osterberg load cell is placed at the bottom of a production shaft for testing. The test is performed until "failure" of the side shear resistance is observed. However, an acceptable resistance (i.e., twice the design load) is...
Piles will be driven within 10 to 25 ft of existing building. It is likely that vibrations from the pile driving will exceed allowable levels. Besides drilling the piles in, does anyone have any proven methods for driving the piles and keeping the vibrations to acceptable limits? Obviously, I...
Thanks for the info. What did you do to remediate the piles where the end plate was driven up the pile? Also, did you do any analyses to determine what size plate would avoid this situation?
