Hello,
I hope I am phrasing this question clearly.
I am looking to transition into the hydrogen industry, and one of the big players currently are fuel cell companies.
I am curious as to what process engineers actually do in these organisations. Assuming a company manufactures a container...
Thanks Latexman.
Due to the layout of the plant, some of the lines are quite long hence the (relatively) large pressure drops, compared to the consumers.
I'll look into the distribution like you said, always good to learn something new!
Thanks. I've read enough posts here to realise how much a drawing can make a question easier to understand. Are you affiliated with "BigInch", by the way? He/she has been a regular poster here for a long time.
The temperatures and flows going into the process side of the skids X, Y and Z (these...
Hello guys
First of all I apologise if this has been covered somewhere else, I have done a bit of searching but haven't seen it.
As the topic suggests, what I have is a closed loop heat transfer system which heats up process streams around an oil & gas separation facility. The HTF (Therminol...
Hello DuncanM. I have a personal question, based on what you said in this thread. Will it be possible to converse with you via email? Mine is wazobia2@yahoo.com.
Regards.
JStephen, thanks for the explanation of the differences in terms. I have a much clearer view now. I'll certainly check out the difference in vent area between the two.
IFRS, thanks for the email address. I'll send you an email in a bit.
Hi guys
I had posted this topic in another thread, but was advised to post over here instead.
Basically I'm involved in a project for a fuel storage facility.
We are designing tanks both fixed roof tanks, and internal floating decks, and I am sizing vents for these tanks.
The requirements...
Thanks TD2K.
The version of API 2000 I had looked at was the 5th edition, 1998, which mentions both external floating roof, and free venting internal floating roof tanks. I just looked at the 2009 version and like you say, it excludes only external floating roof tanks, there is no mention of...
Hi.
I'm involved in a project for a fuel storage facility.
We are designing tanks both fixed roof tanks, and internal floating decks, and I am sizing vents for these tanks.
The requirements and calculations for fixed roof tanks are quite detailed in API 2000, however it explicitly states...

The Client specifications rule out anything less than 1/2" NPS pipes for this service of fluid. But thanks for the input.
BigInch,
the client was happy the size / flow. So i think this issue is solved now. Thanks to all who made an input.
I think the thread can be closed now...
Thanks guys, i have learned a lot from these posts.
BigInch, I am assuming you mean to increase the suction pipe diameter in lieu of a larger surge tank, right?
With a flow of 10gph [just under 0.2gpm], the flow velocity for a half inch pipe comes to about 0.28ft/s. This is far lower than...
Thanks for the information. I kinda feel sheepish for mentioning 1/2 inch pipe sizes and flanges, thanks for the reminder.
Rickfer, for one application the flow is to a heat medium system make up tank, so intermittent flow isnt a problem. The second application is to another pump suction...
Hi.
I am trying to size a pump for a client, to output chemicals from an injection pot to an overhead tank. The capacity of the pump they want is in the 10gallon per hour range (the chemical injection shot pot is 2 gallons in volume). However, I am getting very small values for suction size...
...thought is to consider the head developed due to resistance in length of piping [and fittings] and compensate for that in the equation v = (sqrt)2*g*deltaH, i.e. effectively reducing the difference in height by a value equal to the head developed due to piping friction. Anyone have further...
Thanks for the advice BigInch. I havent started the line sizing calculations proper, hopefully i'll get my other stuff done before midday and start on that.
Hi. I am doing some work on crude oil separation and am having problems finding correlations / methods on pressure drop calculations for the crude lines. Basically it's a design for a new flowstation, and i am trying to do some preliminary line sizing calculations.
Is it OK to assume a...
Oops, i feel a bit silly. Yes, the problem is that the contactor wouldnt converge. And of course, every other stream and operation after it.
When the flowrate is doubled, i get an "Fatal error - Zero diagonal in column matrix. There may be no solution with current specs" message.
You are...
