    Double Start Thread Orientation

Strange one here. I have some cylindrical castings that have bosses (radially) in them that will be tapped. There is a double start thread along the long axis of the part. My question is: Can I relate the thread start to the bosses? Stated another way, can you control the spindle angle to...

    External Rads or Chamfers Preferable

Another advantage of adding a radius is that platings like to adhere better to blended surfaces than sharp transitions.

    Learning GeoStar

I've been using CosmosWorks for a little bit now and am getting cautiously familiar with it. I need to do some dynamic response problems which CosmosWorks will not do. We have the GeoStar add-on by CosmosM that should handle (via ASTAR) the dynamic response due to random vibration. I'm one...

    CTE Errors in CW?

I now have insight! (Answering my own post). I was viewing the resultant displacement instead of the z-axis displacement! I changed to view the z-axis and the results agree perfectly with my hand-calculations. I knew there had to be something to it!

    CTE Errors in CW?

Because I don't trust myself using FEA entirley yet, I try to do a few simple examples that I can hand calculate to compare results. I'm getting a problem with thermal expansion of a part. I'm a newbie to CW and having trouble with a few things. If I go into the material properties of 6061...

Using Thermal Study Results in Stress Test

I'm pretty green as well, so this may not be much help. I haven't used DesignStar, but within Cosmosworks you can achieve that result by doing a thermal study first and just applying a temperature to the appropriate parts (surfaces). Start a second study, and then right click on it, then...

    Convection Coefficient

Thanks Corus. I had thought that was the case but just wanted to make sure. The upshot of this is that I really enjoyed my heat transfer classes in college but haven't used it since. I'll get cracking on it.

    Convection Coefficient

Our company just got CosmosWorks Advanced Professional with Geostar and I have very little FEA experience. I am attending a training course next week on this, so I have been playing around with it a bit. And have a question. I am looking at designing an extruded vertical-finned heat sink to...

    Spiralock threads

In addition to the taps (which I have had problems with as well), don't forget that you need to get the special thread gages from Spiralock as well. We had our QC folks break a gage and the leadtime for replacement was quite a while at the time. Frank

    Vibration Comparison

I'm an ME that has very limited experience in vibration analysis. I was recently handed a project to evaluate the effectiveness of a vibration damping mount. We had two tests done to the UUT per MIL-STD-810F(Fig 514.5C-1). The first test had the UUT mounted directly to the shaker table...
