Bolting connections to concrete reduction factors

When we have a group of anchors to concrete, do we typically applied the spacing reduction factor for each bolt around the bolt in question? For example: If I have 5" spacing between three bolts, with a specing factor 0.75 for this spacing, then the capacity of the middle bolt would be =...

Minimum numer of bolts for bracing connection (Canadian code CSA S16)

Hello, I am reviewing some drawings with steel bolted connections. The are some lateral bracings bloted on each end with one bolt. Does anyone know if there is any requirement about minimum number of bolts to place on a connection? A tech in my office says it should be at least 2 bolts, but I...

Replacing Bridge (under Canadian Code - CAN-CSA S6-06)

Thank you guys, under clause 3.8.3.1 of CSA S6-06, I am allowed to lower the load based on traffic conditions. I will design using the old load given that the traffic will not change (this is certified by tyhe owner of the bridge); so I am still good with the abutments.

Elastic Section Modulus or Plastic Section Modulus?

Thanks SteelPE, That means that when using plastic section modulus, I am using the full capacity of a section; so if using elastic instead of plastic, am I being just conservative? or what other implications may have using one or the other?... Thanks again

    Shear stregth

Hello, I would like to know why it appears to be a big difference between the shear strenght calculated following the american code compared to the shear strenght calculated under the canadian code: American code: Vc=2*0.85*√f'c Canadian code: Vc=0.65*β*λ*√f'c where β is around 0.2 and λ=1.0...
