    Yes that was a good response- I am sure that H2S explains the problem- however it leads to other questions- Why is it white corrosion on copper terminals and why only the negative terminals?

    One additional thing- all copper turns black in the panels very quickly. There is some new wiring that was added late this summer that are already black.

    Nope, nothing but a very foul odor. (it's a waste water treatment plant). That being said- I guess there is a possibility of fumes from the process entering the room, but this is the only thing that appears to be affected.

    Merlin gerin masterpact problem

    I have seen problems in the Square D masterpact similar to this before. If the trip unit fails then the breaker defaults back to a low percentage of its frame rating. This is an easy fix and the trip unit is only a couple of hundred dollars. This may be your problem.

    Evaporation

    Thanks all for your valuable input. We performed a test last night to determine losses due to evaporation- The measurements indicate approximately 60 gallons per hour are being evaporated. At this point I’m still trying to reconcile this mathematically.
