    Countersunk Pull-Through

Hi desertfox, for a bolt group of 4 CSK screws, there is a 54 kN force acting on it. Plates are A36 steel & screws are Gr. 8.8. I have a gut feel that governing failure won't be pull through, but I am just not familiar with the case of countersunk bolts.

    Countersunk Pull-Through

Hello World. We have this scenario as shown below. Given the thickness of the plate & diameter of the bolt. I am not worried much about the pull-through of the connection, but I have to show proof / document that it will not fail. Is there a code showing this ? I know there is this formula in...

    THERM 6.3 SOFTWARE QUERY

Hi. Are you guys familiar with the Therm Software? How do you consider the shadow box in the therm model? Do you draw the whole thing or only up to a certain length? Also how does this affect the center-of-glass u-factor? Sorry for the bombarding questions. Thanks in advance :) Cheers[lipstick]

    Fasteners subject to Bending

So here's a picture of the scenario. The space between the principal material and the fastened plate is one inch. Won't the fastener be subject to bending? Also, most codes I look at doesn't seem to show any criteria or consideration for bending. It's always shear or tension loads. This has been...

    Fasteners subject to Bending

Hello smart people. I need your help. I've heard that screws should not be subject to bending loads, but I don't know where to reference that idea. And could you please explain why? Thank you and best regards, Irene Adler[bigsmile]

    Torsion Constant - Stiffeners

Hi! From what I know torsion constant value is highest when the section is a closed shape. But what if the section is not enough to accommodate applied loads? Could we put stiffeners to increase the shape's torsional stiffness ? Just like in the picture (plan view of an aluminum tube-green)...

    Self-Drilling Screws

Nice try Sherlock. [glasses] I have no issues in terms of the allowable values. It's just that every time I analyse these fasteners, it's for light loading only. I'm just worried that I may have overlooked a few points when considering self-drilling screws. Won't there be any problem in...

    Self-Drilling Screws

Buenas Dias![smile] Could anyone provide me information on the pros & cons of Self-Drilling Screws? We have this case wherein a frame is supported at two points. At these two points, the fixing is proposed to be fastened on a 6mm thk steel RHS using Self-Drilling Screws, for installation...

Work flow goes: they give me the project, details & drawings, I do the structural analysis on the system, then I...
