Does anyone know of any good P22 creep data that I might be able to get a hold of? Specifically I am looking for the effects of creep if you increase the operating temperature from 900F to 950F for P22. I found some data on creep for P22 tubing in terms of time to rupture (hr) vs. test...
juliocesarp:
The formulas that Caesar II uses comes straight from the Code book. The B31.1 and B31.3 both have equations to calculate stresses for three different conditions: 1) Dead weight (sus); 2) Expansion (operating); and 3) Occasional. It has been awhile since I have used Caesar II...
EdStainless: Thanks for the response. It is also possible that, if the contamination takes place prior to fabrication and PWHT that the carbon can react with the Cr in the P91 forming chromium carbides during PWHT at the contamination sites and alter the P91 material property?
Can anyone give me some more detailed information on the phenomenon of carbon contamination of P91 material when it comes into contact with carbon steel (e.g. when carbon steel is used to lift P91 material, some of the carbon steel material gets embedded into the P91 material). Specifically...
Can anyone recommend a good reference for standard micrographs? ASM Handbook Volume 9: Metallography and Microstructures is one reference that I found, but I don't know if there are any others. The reason I am asking is because I am interested in obtaining some reference micrographs of low...
stanweld: Along with the hardness testing, I would also recommend that metallographic replication be performed as there is a chance that, even if an elbow passes hardness requirements, the microstructure is not Grade 91 but something lower like Grade 9.
JohnSterling: I believe there was an HRSG User's Group meeting in the 3rd quarter or 4th quarter of 2006. That would be one good place to start. I don't think that the proceeds from that meeting are available yet. If anyone else knows more about this meeting and when/how the information from...
Interesting problem. I agree with Mssrs metengr and Yallapragada 1022, however I have also heard of stories told at the last ASME Section II Creep Strength Enhanced Ferritics meeting in Louisville, KY in Nov. 2006 that there were instances of P91 material having soft spots in straight lengths...
Has anyone heard any additional information on this failure? From the pictures, the failure isn't close to any weld, so I am wondering what the causes could be. Can anyone tell me if there is a resource that lists past failures of this type of material and the causes?
Can anyone point me to some good sources of information on any research that either has been done or is being done on the P5B piping materials (e.g. P91, P92, P122, etc.)? Some specific areas of interest are performing post weld heat treatment at various temperatures, and if a lower limit has...
metengr: Thanks for the response and information. I would be interested in finding out the results of the HRSG inspections. Do you know how I can get access to that?
Pertaining to you comment on P92, I respectfully disagree that Grade 92 does not seem to have the reputation related to...
I have read quite a few threads concerning P91 material, and a few on P92 material, but the information is a little dated (circa 2004/2005). There have been some updates to the ASME codes (allowable stresses, PWHT temperatures, etc.). Can anyone tell me if there has been any other developments...
