    Plate analysis

I have been tasked to analyse a plate that will be bolted to a bulkhead. The plate has 2 beams welded to it. My question is what failure modes do I need to look at. I have done bearing (tear out) of the fasteners but what are the other modes I need to look at? The plate is 220 mm wide by 100...

Thanks phamENG. That's a great help

    Stress strain

Hi STrctPono Yes that's what I thought. As long as you are in the elastic range it would be fine. I'm not sure what you would do in the plastic region

    Stress strain

I apologise if this is obvious. I was having a discussion at work and someone said that back calculating stress from Young’s Modulus isn’t good practice. The problem is that the analyst has calculated the compressive stress from the deflection using sigma = (E x extension) / length. Does anyone...

Thanks ever so much for your help

    Double Overhanging Beam

I thought you applied the UDL as a point load at the midpoint of the span? i.e. 50Kn x 1. Therefore there is is 90 kN applied? Thank you for the feedback

    Double Overhanging Beam

Hi I am an apprentice engineer trying to learn about beam, and beam bending. I have done a little presentation analysing a double overhanging beam. Please could one of you wonderful seasoned Engineers let me know if I have got it correct? The first image is of the beam with 2 point loads of...

classic stressing - help me please!!!

Sorry to bother you again, but a panel analysis has been carried out on the wall the bracket attaches to and I have the x, y and shear running loads for the panels. For conservatism do I add these loads to the loads I used for the bracket analysis? And carry out a net tension, shear and bearing...

classic stressing - help me please!!!

Hi Desertfox Thanks again for your help. One more thing, if I was to do a net tension check on the plate would I just take it across one hole. i.e. (W - d) with W being half the width of the plate? Thanks Bidga1

classic stressing - help me please!!!

Thanks for all your help! Would I need to do a net tension check? Thanks, Bidga1

classic stressing - help me please!!!

Hi. I've just started a stress job and have been given a bracket 5" by 3" by 0.25" thick to stress. It is attached by 8 fasteners and has a lug around an inch from one end. I've managed to use a bolt group spreadsheet to extract the load per fastener but am a bit lost as to how to analyze the...
