Tantalum Foil Drawing Cracks after First Operation

Hi Colleagues, Recent tantalum .002" foil material (either e-beam melted or arc cast) has tearing problems forming small cup shapes, while 5-10 years old vintage material (.0023 to .0024" thick) does not. The source of the old vintage material cannot be verified, but we can can assume that both...

Is there such a thing as dead soft tantalum (unalloyed)?

Unalloyed tantalum can be annealed in vacuum or in inert-gas atmospheres at 2400F for 1 hour. Can it be heated, as in copper, to near its critical temperature to produce a dead soft condition? Thank you for your comments.

Best heat treatment of C1018 steel for lowest permeability?

I am trying to find the best temperature (C) and time (minutes) at temperature for annealing C1018 steel to obtain the lowest permeability. Please suggest the amount of time per cross-sectional thickness. What permeability should I expect to get? Thank you.
