    Pipe design for external pressure

Thanks for all the suggestions . These were really helpful. In fact I used XS pipe , i.e. about 1/2 " thick and considered L/D as 50, and got A factor on the left side of curve CS-2. Then using Step-7 , with E about 26.5 E6 psi at 600 F , got about 30 psi allowable external pressure, which is...

    Pipe design for external pressure

I am checking a 42" steam turbine LP extraction piping for operation at the vacuum condition , i.e. subject to external pressure. Clause 104.1.3 of B31.1 refers to the procedure in UG-28, UG-29 and UG-30 of Section VIII, Div 1 for this purpose. Section-VIII, Div-1, UG-28 provides a methodology...

Master Stamping Pressure of ZSupercritical Boiler

I am designing the HP Steam Pipe from the Superheater outlet to the steam turbine of a Supercritical Power Plant. Typically this pipe is designed for the Master Stamping pressure of the Super Critical boiler (ref PG-106.3 and Fig PG-67.4 of ASME BPVC Section-1) . The Boiler supplier of the Power...

Boiler Feed Pump NPSH at Hot Start

I work in Consulting Engg. firm, specialised in Power plant engineering I am discussing Boiler Feed Pump in Utility Scale power plant of above 300 MW rating. Barrel type pump Deaerator temperature around 9 bara, temperature around 350 deg.C I am interested to know about the Cavitation scenario...

Boiler Feed Pump NPSH at Hot Start

There are many articles on Boiler Feed Pump transient NPSH analysis during load throw-off. Can anyone inform me about similar study for Hot Start situation ?

Turbine exhaust pressure for Combined Cycle Operation

I am involved with the design of a Combined Cycle Plant. The Steam Turbine exhaust is condensed in an air cooled condenser (ACC). The fan control of the ACC is done by measuring the turbine backpressure and comparing that with the turbine backpressure set point . The pressure controller adjust...

Steam Turbine with 40 " LSB

Thanks byrdj and rmw I have a curve for "Exhaust pressure Vs. Change in Output", which is drawn upto 5" HgA. Somewhere in the manual it is also noted that the alarm and trip setting are at 5" and 7.5" Hg. So may be it is safe upto below 5" , say around 4.5". What do you think ?

Steam Turbine with 40 " LSB

I am now working for a project where a GE steam turbine (250 MW, 60 Hz) , originally designed for watercooled condenser application, will now be used with air cooled condenser. So the backpressure will now increase from 2" Hg to about 4.5 - 5.0" Hg. The turbine has 40 " last stage blade (LSB)...

Last Stage Blade of Steam Turbine

I am now working for a project where a GE steam turbine (250 MW, 60 Hz) , originally designed for exhausting into water cooled condenser, will now be exhausting to air cooled condenser. So the backpressure will now increase from 2" Hg to about 4.5 - 5.0" Hg. The turbine has 40 " last stage blade...
