    Basic Question

Hi I have a basic question I was trying to calculate the torque axis at the rear suspension for an AWD, the way I understand it is the resultant of the driveshaft torque axis and the halfshaft torque axis , now if I consider them as 2 3D vectors having different origins , and I want to...

    Stabilizer bar

Greg I am at a stage where my bar rate with bushings using a tool i created is coming out pretty close compared to Adams and Nastran. But I am stuck at one spot, I want to model the links in the system as well and get the stabilizer bar system rate, For a bayonet-bayonet (two rubber bungs...

    Stabilizer bar

Well I was actually interestd in the effective bar rate at the wheel, i thought if i could get the effective bar rate at the link end and use the simple motion ratio formulas to get the effecting bar rate at wheel I am not sure how accurate that would be but just a try Thanks

    Stabilizer bar

How about using a spool bushing at the ends that can probable be modeled as a 6D spring element I know there is another one the grommet kind thats complicated I have no idea how to model that Thanks for your help

    Stabilizer bar

Well Ok lets talk about the complex situation where the links are inclined How do you model that complex situation in ADAMS today lets just assume a ball-ball link i would really like to understand how the load path is defined because I am assuming even in ADAMS you use beam elements to define...

    Stabilizer bar

Yes it is a non-linear model but the non-linearity is only in the bushings (3D springs) and in the links and am using the beam element with 6 dof/ node I am not modeling the control arms but i know the motion ratios through my kinematics model and I know the deflections but how do i calculate...

    Stabilizer bar

Hello all I have developed a Finite element tool that uses beam elements to model a stabilizer bar and have also built in the bushings. I am able to get the deflections for all the beams, my question is what is the most accurate way (use which deflections) to get roll stiffness number for the...

    Bushing Hoops Stress Testing

edrush Let me see if I understand it correctly I am trying to use the equations for interference fits in thick cylinders to calculate the hoop stress ( you can find these equations in any machine design book) In tht case I am assuming a bushing is inserted into a boss , only the outer sleeve...

    Bushing Hoops Stress Testing

Hello Is anybody familiar with how a press fitted bushing inside a boss (solid outer metal + rubber+ inner metal) is tested for hoops stress Once a supplier told me that they test it with no rubber inside the bushing , my question is in that case if I wanted to hand calculate the hoops...

    Stabilizer bar

Greg When you say width of the bar do you mean the bar diameter or the moment arm length And also the reaction comes out in the opposite direction to the applied force hence the deflection due to the reaction force is in opposite direction, so do I have to subtract the deflection at bushing...

    Stabilizer bar

I had another question regarding calculating sta bar roll stiffness, since most of the static formulas available for calculating roll stiffness do not take into account bushing stiffness at body attachment point I thought of deriving a formula which takes into account bushing stiffness as well I...

    Upper Control Arm constraints

I know, they are like matrix solutions it sucks to do that buy hand explain that to my boss lol thanks greg

    Upper Control Arm constraints

I was trying to do hand calculations to get to an approximate solution for the control arm, since I have assumed rigid supports at the bushings using simple statics I am unable to find the bending moment at the bushing ends as it is statically indeterminate Is there any approximation I can make...

    Upper Control Arm constraints

Well john is right that inertia relief is used to just balance the residual forces I was trying to do the same thing I wish i could show you guys my free body diagram Let me try and explain what I am doing Inputs A- Arm pivot points Fore-Aft and lateral loads at bj Rigidly fixed bushings...

    Upper Control Arm constraints

I am not a FEA analyst but most FEA guys I have talked to in my company about constraining suspension compoennets, there answer have been " we dont use constraints we used inertia relief analysis" Well the link that john pointed is pretty good and goes over the basics, I tried the same...

    Upper Control Arm constraints

Thanks Greg The force is acting in y(Cross-car) and x(Fore-aft) direction. Greg can you also recommend a source like a book or something that helps me determine how to actually constraint a model for FEA. One more question that I wanted to add was if I did some basic hand calculations and used...

    Upper Control Arm constraints

Hello I am creating a Catia V5 model of a upper control arm , and also doing static analysis of the upper control arm using Catia v5 analysis(elfini solver) I was having problems trying to contraint the upper control arm to show a realistic loading its a double wishbone type of suspension...

    Stabilizer bar

Greg Thanks for your reply i know it wont be a very accurate solution but I am just trying to get into the 15% ball park, ignoring the bushing defection gives me a 50% error one other thing that I am trying to understand is how does the mount bushing actually deflect during pure roll, and it...

    Stabilizer bar

Hello everybody i was looking up some formulas for calculating stabilizer bar roll stiffness, given things are: Bar Diameter Material properties Lever arm length Torsional section length I found some data about it in thread108-40691 But the problem I was having the most formulas available...
