    Thanks for all your answers. they are very helpful. I just found out that for my wind problem, I might be able to use a fabric cover or a ball cover (water filled so they don't blow away). they are both an order of magnitude cheaper than the aluminum cover.

    the cover is to protect it from freezing so it can be a temporary (removable) cover if possible.
